Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day How often at night when the heavens are bright With the light from the glittering stars Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gazed If their glory exceeds that of ours Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day Where the air is so pure, the zephyrs so free The breezes so balmy and light That I would not exchange my home on the range For all of the cities so bright Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day Oh, I love those wild flow'rs in this dear land of ours The curlew, I love to hear scream And I love the white rocks and the antelope flocks That graze on the mountaintops green Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day
The area around I-10 and Gessner isn't too bad if you stay around or south of Westview. But it's probably well out of your price range, especially as you head east away from Gessner.
Oak Forest is nice. I thought about buying there, but none of the houses have garages. Seems like all the garages have been converted. I needed a garage instead of a carport so I wouldn't have to unload gear after getting home from gigs. One day, I got a little lost driving around that area and stumbled into a neighborhood called Candlelight Oaks Village. It's up further north on TC Jester between Pinemont and Tidwell. The houses are priced between 100K-150K. It's a great little neighborhood. Very quiet. I ended up buying there and getting a nicer house for the money thanks to Mrs. codell who actually helped save about 15K! Oh, yeah. It was free too! I was a first time home buyer and I couldn't have done it without her. You should give her a call.
H- Would you be interested in new construction? Lennar has some very nice Communities in the West Houston area past beltway 8. If you are interested, drop me a line. I already have a few Communities in mind that I think you would really like. dm
Dude Im trying to find a place in Oak Forest, but everything seems out of my price range. I did find one place that looks nice around $110K but not sure the condition on the inside.
A house is the largest investment in many people's financial portfolios. I wouldn't try to rush the decision, that's how bad deals are done. Unless you find something you are comfortable with, I'd do a parallel house rental search. Screwing up a home-buying decision can cripple you financially for years to come.
My grandmother lives in Oak Forest. Its a nice place and close to town. Try to find a house on a corner so you can get a 2 car garage on the side and not a front loading one car garage
That is a good point, alot of the houses have been converted including mine. I have a similar problem with my gear (except that I load in and out once a month instead of every night). It doesn't bother me too much because I have a side access work room. Our house was originally a parsonage for one of the churches on 43rd and our garage was turned into his study, with bookshelves floor to ceiling. I miss the garage, but enjoy the library.
oomp - Aren't there certain sections of Oak Forest that are nicer than others? I think we're gonna go look at this one, because I like the location and the price is about what we're looking for. It looks a grandma on crack decorated the place, but other than that I think it looks pretty good: http://www.har.com/search/engine/indexdetail.cfm?mlnum=8451243&class=1&leadid=6&sTYPE=0&backButton=Y I've also been looking at some places in Shepherd Forest, which I think is pretty close to Oak Forest.
Harrisment, seriously you should go to the front page of this website and search by zip code. Try 77091. I think you'll be surprised at some of the houses you can find that are just a few miles north of Oak Forest and not as pricey. The houses are newer too. No offense to oomp, Oak Forest is nice. Besides, what's up the the realtor pic for that house? That dude looks like he fell asleep in the tanning booth or something! You can't buy a house from that 'tard.
Shepherd Forest Oak Forest Candlelight Oaks Village ima - Why you 091'rs have to hate on the 018? I actually like the style our older house. It has had only 2 previous owners (one for just three years) when we got it we were looking at the house pretty much the way it was when it was built. It's like a blank slate from 1946. Yes Harrisment there are sections that are better than others. I don't know that part of of Oak Forest as well as I know the area between Ella and TC Jester. The area you are looking at would have been affected by the tollway expansion that they were trying to pass, but that is dead now. A large portion of the homes in this area are owned by older Houstonians, so if you are looking for a quiet neighborhood, its great for that. Across 290 from the house you were looking at used to be a Service Merchandise and Toys R Us that have left and most of the complex just sits empty now. I don't know if that's a sign of the lack of health of the neighborhood or just that on 34th (one exit earlier) there has been alot of growth. There is a new Academy, Office Max, Randalls etc. in the area. Cafe Red Onion Seafood is right across 290 which is a plus. hope that helps.
