1. goto Safe mode w/ Networking [f8 when you log on] 2. I generally download and install Malwarebytes - Update and run this 3. for antivirus 2009 - I find the icon on my desktop. . . .check the properties and see where it is located . . and deleted the folders. 4. goto device manager - Click on Search hiddendevices. . . look for anything TDSS . . . and disable it. Then do a search for all things TDSS and delete them [might require a reboot before you can delete. ] Then fo back to device manager and uninstall the TDSS <-- this may not be on your computer but it is on alot of them and can stop you from downloading crap to defeat it. 5. Check the MSCONFIG for obvious Spyware crap in the startup and services tabs 6. Run Reg Manager or CCLeaner Rocket River just my humble advice for a start
ok so i just put it all together what the virus did. i noticed that this document from notepad called desktop.ini was on my desktop.. but not only in my desktop but in all my folders. like all my folders. it also went and got the album art to every song on my computer. like i said i dont download much but i did take songs from my mp3 player and put it on the computer. zune organizes everything into folders and sub folders so i have to go through a bagillion folders to delete them all. any 1 know how to delete this catastrophy all at once. or will i have to do it manually...did i mention its the same document in every folder that i have..
Does it really bother you? It's not a virus. It's a file that is created when you change the appearance of a folder. Anyway, the quickest way to delete them all would probably be searching for desktop.ini ==> select all ==> delete. But know that you will have new ones in no time.
Are you sure the virus created the desktop.ini files? Here is some information regarding those files. Do the dates coincide with the virus or do some predate the virus? http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/zanswers/797
Have you tried any free online scans yet ? http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/ Panda is good - you need to use IE when you use it though.
it didnt appear until after i got the virus. then i was copying music to my phone and saw rows and rows of album art downloaded from limewire that i didnt do. and i dont let any1 use my computer long enough for them to do it. so it could or couldnt be.
