    2. is correct.

You might want to make topic plural though? Not sure.

Women's rights are the topics of many debates in our society

and i thank you very much...

how is this for a thesis statement

Islam does not oppress women, nor does it treat them as second class citizens; instead it gives women equal rights and treats them with the utmost respect.

If it has to be one sentence I'd go with:

Islam does not oppress women by treating them as second class citizens; on the contrary, it gives them equal rights and the utmost respect.

If you can split it I'd go:

Islam does not oppress women by treating them as second class citizens. It gives them equal rights and the utmost respect.

I think the key to good writing is writing as you would actually say the setence that is in your mind.

    is citizenry really a word?

    so

    it would then be

    1. Islam does not oppress women, nor does it treat them as second class citizens; instead it gives women equal rights and treats them with the utmost respect.

    2.
Islam neither oppresses women, nor treats them as second class citizenry; rather Islam gives women equal rights and treats them with the utmost respect.

too many times, i try to put on paper what i am thinking in my mind, but im not too good at doing that, especially when i have to censor out the random curse words and stuff that is always wandering in my mind.

Thats how I had it... :D with a comma.

ok, does this sentence make any sense???

Many times the actions of a few corrupt Muslims is perceived as the way of life taught by Islam, and this misconception is another reason why many feel that the religion of Islam is oppressing women
