McGrady has brought all this on himself with his history of comments and interviews over his entire career. Notice the difference between Tracy and when Shane talks with reporters. Both are about the same age, and Shane had not passed the first round until last year also. But Shane always keeps a positive attitude and does not criticize his teammates. As to American culture: Sometimes, being honest in American culture will get you criticized. We just consider it our constitutional right which gives us freedom of speech (or freedom to criticize). However, like with any freedom, it is used unfairly sometimes. But, we prefer not to throw the "baby" out with the bath water. As you probably know very well, being honest in other cultures may be "hazardous" to your health. This does not apply to you, but it seems Americans are always required to apologize for our "culture" to the rest of the world. However, the hypocrisy of this knows no bounds--if the people criticizing American culture looks for a moment at their "own" culture and its history of brutality. In American culture, no one is considered a God --including our government. Hopefully, this helps you to understand America culture a bit more. Also, just fyi, my ethnicity is Indian AND I am an American.
people are only mad at T-mac because the last game he played he sucked. If he came back and played well, they'd all be hugging his nuts till the next time he played back again,
I never had any problem with T-Mac until he said the Lakers were going to win the series with the Rockets last year. Sure, they did. But you're on the team! You don't say that!
i recall last year taht he said he was good to go. then coincidentally, when trade rumors surfaced, he was unable to go for the rest of the year. and he did not mention it to the staff first. he just reported it to the media. thats very unprofessional. his character has been questionable. there is justified resent for this man, so I am in the complete opposite boat as you. When people defend him, I cannot even begin to understand why anyone in this city is behind him.
American culture is about being tough and winning. If you lose and you don't suck up everything (being a "man") than people won't like you here. You are considered weak and disgusting. That's just our culture. Perception always dominates reality - everywhere...but that perception is skewed to our values. American values is hard work = winners. Therefore if you don't win, you don't work hard.
I could've overlooked a lot of things he did last year, even though his constant playing of the media is annoying- but the two things that did it for me were his fiasco right before the trade deadline, announcing his season was over on his own, and then predicting the Lakers to win the title while we were still in contention. If that doesn't scream "not a team player", I don't know what does.
Please don't try as you will be more confused! Many of the posters who are on this site are from the lower end of american culture and must be taken with a pinch of salt. That is, their opinions are not rational or influnced by family tradition or level of education, infact by the language used many seem to be very uncultured.
Ok it's simple. Your job is to get the team to the NBA finals, you get paid $23 million/year. You can't make it past the first round and you don't even work the entire year. Your friends(Kobe, Paul Pierce, Lebron, Duncan) at the other companies, Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Cavs, etc are getting paid just as much as you, but are jealous of all the vacation time you have.
it's one thing to tell things how they are like a charles barkley or ron artest, but t-mac seems completely oblivious to the repurcussions of what he's about to say, which is why he gets bashed.
Listen fool. I understand your confusion but please don't bash the american culture. I'm sorry but it is much better than the Chinese culture. I've surprised that your government hasn't locked down this site for you like they do facebook, gmail, and even google at times. O and that sucks how its illeagle to have a ps3 or xbox 360. That is pretty naive of you to say that the american culture likes to hate on people. Anyway, the main reason is that he is always complaining and never happy with the situation. When he didn't have much help he said he needs more help. When he had more help he said that he needs more shots. And he is not the a guy that plays with heart. This city likes and expects people to play with heart. If he feels a little challeneged he just rolls over, period. I know he has done a lot for the team but that is why he is getting paid 20+ million. Hell yeah you better be averaging 25 pts and 5 assists a game for that kind of money, and you better be happy about it.
I don't know, the BBS seems to hate it's "so called stars" and celebrate their 10 day contract players.
Way to rep Americans. Name calling to start, nice. It IS American culture to complain and hate on people. Where you been dude? BBS culture is the same multiplied a gazzillion times. That's a real number by the way
