Not sure but I doubt the Mini is still as in demand as it was a few years ago. If it is not then pay about 300-500 under invoice.
I hated the look "corporate shield" look at first, but it's grown on me. The 2012 MMC should reduce the size of the grill, but then I think it becomes a boring Camry-like car. I don't know - I'm waiting to see it in something other than camo'd spyshots.
$19.5 is with the destination charge included. In my model, I break it out, even though it's non-negotiable anyway, as I understand it. Yes, the $250 is for the "Comfort" upgrade that has a Ipod dock in the armrest. I'm going to stick with my guy, other than shopping the offer to another dealership. I'd like to negotiate by email, but he's bad at responding by email, probably on purpose. I've visited the forum, but haven't inquired. I don't know if I want to start another BBS addiction.
Mini's are great cars to drive but get an extended warranty of some sort. I've owned 2 and both car buying experiences were the best I ever had. The troubles later were all mechanical. BMWNA really tried to screw me so I'll never buy another BMW or Mini but I sure loved my Minis when I owned them.
*Bumps old thread* I am now shopping for a new vehicle as well, and I recall this thread having a lot of insightful information so I took the advise and ran with it... but I ran into a wall. Universally, you suggested contacting the internal sales team for the best price and impersonal negotiation. But is it characteristic of them to be very short and every other exchange is about telling me to come in to chat? This not only makes me feel like he's not trying to earn my business and at the same time I feel like I'm game and he's just reeling me in for the kill. I have already given him what models I'm interested in and told him how much I'll be putting down and what my financing terms will be. Now, I am quite sure he receives a lot of inquiries that never amount to anything, but I felt like I have delivered an honest request but it's not being reciprocated equally. I appreciate any insight. Thank you.
You're definitely, in my opinion, doing the right thing. Just tell him you don't have time right now (say it's tax season, so you're working a lot) to come in, that's why you're doing online. I would assume there are plenty of other places you can contact if this guy is giving you a hard time, and there's nothing wrong with tell him that. To be honest, the more dealerships you contact the better. Getting them in bidding wars against one another is the best thing you can do. Try to keep your down payment to yourself until you have negotiated a price so that they can't use that to sway the price. Bottom line, be patient, do your research, and contact multiple dealerships to get the best deal and save the most money. Good luck! Pugs
They want you to come in so they can work you. Settle on a price via the internet using e-mail. Check with several dealers and let them bid against each other. Have your financing lined up so you don't have to hassle with the dealer. If they try to tell you that they can possibly "beat" your financing, tell them you aren't interested. I made the mistake once of telling a dealer I would be willing to see if they could beat the financing I already had. After waiting well over an hour twiddling my thumbs, they came in and said they couldn't beat it. Time wasted. If you get weak and go into the dealer, be prepared to get up and walk out when they bull**** you. Then actually do it. I once walked out of a dealer 3 times, but was stopped outside each time and eventually got the price I wanted (and was promised). Thank god for the internet when it comes to buying wheels. Use it and good luck!
This is my advice if it means anything... I bought my Nissan back in 07, my brother just bought an Infiniti a little under a year ago... My sister and law just got her car a couple of months ago... all 3 drive out prices (which includes tax and title) for these cars were below edmunds TMV.. ofcourse financing is seperate... ohh and btw one of my friends bought his car in 07 as well and paid $100 over TMV as his driveout.. in your case it seems you will be trading in.. I hope the dealer doesn't know this already.. also don't mention financing or down payment.. just get your drive out price before anything... especially since you said you're trading in one of those aircheck cars or whatever so you'll recieve a set price for your trade in... bottom line... DRIVE OUT PRICE SHOULD BE FAIRLY CLOSE TO TMV.. I maybe wrong but that's usually the price I keep in my head and eventually some dealership will agree to it.. and ohh don't tell em that you want the TMV as your driveout cause they will always mention that on edmunds.com it says TMV doesn't include TTL... and they'll be more than happy to give you the price plus TTL.. in that case you'll still be getting jipped...
I have bought my last several cars in cash and think the dealer WANTS you to finance through them. They did everything they could to try to get me to finance through them for obvious reasons.
Of course. They make the most money off of financing you. Cash is the least profitable way for them to sell a car. Anybody have any tips for trading in a car to get maximum value?
Take it to a mechanic and get a good evaluation so you really know what is a good price (cause they'll have their mechanics look at it), and like others said in the thread: don't mention the trade in until you have negotiated the price down to where you want it. Surprise them with the trade-in.
Get a Carfax copy from Carmax. They'll check the car out up and down and give you a receipt telling you what the vehicle is worth. DO NOT SHOW this to the salesman you're dealing with while negotiating until they lob some low ball numbers at your trade in. They can try to argue the Carmax price but they will Fail. The last time I bought a car I was actually told to do this buy a salesman and it worked. I ended up getting $3,000 more than they originally offered for the trade in.
Great advise guys I've contacted many dealers, they all refuse to give me the 'drive out price' ... more over, I asked 1 person if they're having 0% financing like their trucks, he says "All vehicles are the same to us" why can't this son'b**** give me a direct answer
A lot of dealers refuse to give you a driveout price over the phone or internet.. they want you to come in so they know your serious.. plus its a lot easier in convincing someone when they are physically there than over the phone... my brother negotiated everything for his car over the phone.. but thats because he already went into another infiniti dealer and had a drive out price that they had given him and asked if they could beat it.. but like i said earlier.. just try to deal with drive out price and worry about financing and down payment later..
They always do this, its a tactic. I've bought w cars via email and got a great deal on both. They key is you have to be firm with them. It's way easier to be a jerk to them over email than in person. When they keep pushing meeting in person, you just flat out tell them no. They tried that with me and I just told them if I wanted to come in and chat I wouldn't email them - they needed to give me the answers over email or they wouldn't be getting my business. This ruffled the feathers of some of them, but everyone of them answered my questions directly after that.
I just bought a new car last week. It was the exact color (in and out), exact options and only had 21 miles of which I put 5 on it myself on the demo ride. $8k off sticker. Got a real good price in ATL via internet - which took weeks. I gave the local dealer a match it or I drive to ATL. They matched. Strange that the same dealer said less than a week earlier they couldn't come close to the price I was looking for. "That's less than what we paid for it" haha - yea right. Then they tried lowballing me on my trade-in of course. "Thanks but I'll go home and sell my car and then come back and buy your car." I was serious but they don't want you to leave when you are that close because you may have trouble selling the car or you might change your mind. Guess what? They matched my trade-in price which was over $1000 above Edmunds TIV...and it needed new tires ($1000 for that car) and the rear leather seat was starting to crack. It really helped that they guy I was working with had just started 3 weeks earlier and was hungry for a sale. Add to that the all afternoon neg and you are about to walk out after all that...1 hour before closing. You get a fish that close you don't want him to get away. He had someone overseeing him but it was nice working with someone that wasn't in the business long. That part was just dumb luck. Do your research. Be serious. Be confident. And most important - be patient. And don't EVER get caught in the what do you want your monthly payments to be game. You are going down if that happens. What kind of car/truck are you looking for?
Mustang v6 This thing invoices for just under 24k, and the average that folks are paying for this is just under 25k I am aiming for around 26k drive out price
Is one of these what you are looking for at the price you are looking for? This was the dealer I used to beat down the locals. But what you want to do is contact this dealer and tell them what you are looking for and that you are thinking about making a trip to ATL in a couple of weeks (don't lie though - be serious if they make the deal you are looking for). They will come back with a price and you tell them what you want to pay. They will say they can't but you just wait. As time gets closer they will come down. Then you take that price into your local dealer (your first face-to-face) but you are just test driving. But you tell them you 've been looking around for the best deal but you'd like to deal with them. Tell them that you will come back in a few days - and you hope they can match. Find out when they work and tell them you will be back on xxx. (You're making them wait). You show up on the said date. Drive the like car and give them the VIN and price of the car you are looking at. That should get you the price. The 2nd step is trade-in and then financing. You should get your financiing done up front. They won't give a 0% on this one (they will the Expedition). http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Cars-Tr...&_sticky=1&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_sop=2&_sc=1
