Right now have the sprinkers set to every 3 days to do the lawn for 1 hour and every 4 days to do the beds for 45 mins.. and cut the grass every 5 days

Are you expecting any answer to justify your laziness? :D

I tried to lower my water bill last summer with mimimal amount of watering - only to find out it was not a good idea. The time and effort (plus money) I spent on rejuvenating a somewhat hellish looking lawn this spring definitely made it look like the money I saved from my water bills is not all worthwhile.

This year I am watering my lawn at least twice a week - each time for a good 3 hours - if there has been no or little rain. A lawn care book says that infrequent (compare to watering daily) but copious watering is better than frequent but insufficient watering.

It seems to me most my of neighbours put extra work to keep their lawns green. I feel like there's some unspoken competition going on. :(

Kind of why I started this thread. My yard looks pretty good right after I mow, edge and sweep, but some of my neighbors grass make their yards look like frickin' Augusta National! Which in turn makes mine look like a giant weed.

Got to keep up with the Jones's so to speak.

I water once a week or so. But then we have the weedy Bermuda grass up here in the DFW area...

The easiest way is have contractors do it for you. After 2 years of struggling, I finally have someone do it for me when I moved to the new house, it works wonders. I just don't like the monster water bill I am getting right now.
