But I don't like new music. I'm tired of my fri night playlist. Nothing I hear these days doesn't do anything for me. And I really don't want to spend the time really searching for the stuff. I want to decent music to listen to on a beer filled Fri night. Something kind of upbeat and fun. Good ol rock and roll. I tried listening to some of the stuff in the other thread but I got nothing. Because of my odd schedule this week I caught Letterman last night and saw the band The Gutter Twins. It was ok. I guess it really wasn't new because Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan have been around a while. The song itself wasn't like something I haven't heard before but at least it was listenable. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CTsrzJUViGs&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CTsrzJUViGs&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> I also just remembered that I saw Nick Cave and Grinderman on Letterman last summer and thought it was ok. Again, nothing new (sounds like Butthole Surfers 1994) but it is ok. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oraMv_V6V1s&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oraMv_V6V1s&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> I really don't care for any band that has the word "yeah" in the name or song title. I don't want any bands that has the word "clap" in the name or song title. No bands that play a tambourine or xylophone. Nothing that sounds like the Flaming Lips new stuff or Death Cab for Cutie please. So anyone got anything?
I have been on a folk rock kick for well over a year now. About the only artists I really enjoy listening to, it seems these days, are The Byrds, The Band, Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, and Joni Mitchell. Every once in a while, I'll get in the mood for some r&b/soul/funk in Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye as well as Prince and the Parliament Funkadelic thing. But yea, new stuff?? I could care less about it - the last new album of new music I got was "In Rainbows" by Radiohead and that was around New Year's. I don't know if I have any recommendations for you, MEOWGI. Sounds like you might want to check out Ronnie Hawkins. He is old school rock and roll - rockabilly. Don't know much about him other than that he is from Canada and is rockabilly and that he was the original frontman for The Band back when they were known as The Hawks.

Thank you very much. Really. But the first two sound like The Cure to me. I like the Cure but I have listened to them since the '80s. I don't need no more Cure. The third was ok but I just feel like I'm listening to my 16 year old nephew's music or something. There is no edge. thanks again.
MR. MEOWGI my old friend, I strongly suggest the above to bring you out of your new music duldrums... Though it sometimes may not always seem so, I believe there are always new artists out there doing something as good as those who came before. The Silversun Pickups and Kings of Leon are just a couple others that I partcularly favor right now. If all else fails, do a search on your old favorites (I believe I remember you as a Devo fan) for rereleases. My old Fave Mott The Hoople did a 30 yr anniversary release of their live LP where they included all the sadly left off concert songs and remastred it all. I can't seem to get it out of my CD player. Just as a side note to Manny - Go get Gene Clarks' (of the Byrds) 'No Other' and thank me later.
Thank you very much. Maybe some specific songs would help too. This is just for a Friday night playlist. Let's see... Ok. This doesn't drive me nuts. It sounds kind of mid-90s to me. Like early Beck or something. It can go in the maybe pile. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wvoOLR9v7Ls&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wvoOLR9v7Ls&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Nothing really grabs me with this. Especially for a Friday night. I think people would just want to go to bed. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V9pZ_QDPwbA&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V9pZ_QDPwbA&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> This sounds like Primus elevator music. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/H1hgRDRc3ug&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/H1hgRDRc3ug&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Thanks but I might get my ass kicked if I put this on. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_XC2mqcMMGQ&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_XC2mqcMMGQ&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
you seem rather picky...i'd just stick with whatever music you have now that works for you...hopefully another era of music takes over in the next decade and that music suits you.
Friday night only lends itself to a certain kind of music. It has to rokk. I have listened to my Clash, Devo, Billy Idol, Butthole Surfers, Bad Brains, Fear, Cramps, etc. etc. for a long time. I will have home of that but I would like to add in some new stuff. But nothing too hard either (garage punk) from these artists or the women will complain.
yea...about that...you're going to have to wait, now a days people love no talent hacks as long as the song is catchy
The Blakes are good beer drinkin', pool playin' music. Of course, you could NEVER go wrong with some TOOL or White Stripes, but whatever. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QZ4WBue9bPU&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QZ4WBue9bPU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Meogwi, you strike me as someone who would like Yeasayer. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P2A_Juv213s&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P2A_Juv213s&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dhW8dH7txeU&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dhW8dH7txeU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
You want something that Rocks right? Well, this is an old song, but it is from one of my favorite albums of all time and it Rocks avoid watching the video, it's irrelevant (just listen) Radiohead - "Electioneering" <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cnq7_BX4No8&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cnq7_BX4No8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
BTW- I will always love the Silversun Pickups album. They're badass live. Future Foe Scenarios - Sounds better on the album. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KUNN2h8K47k&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KUNN2h8K47k&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Lazy Eye <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z-mxBDuRaZ8&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z-mxBDuRaZ8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Thanks. This one sounds '80s new wave. Something that would be played on the retro-active station on the comcast music channel. It's very weekday. Not quite Friday night. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P2A_Juv213s&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P2A_Juv213s&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> This has a reggae / Talking Heads / feel to it imo. It's ok. I'm having a hard time getting past the Three's Company Chrissy Snow ponytail of the bass player though. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dhW8dH7txeU&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dhW8dH7txeU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
