Have you figured it out yet?

There doesn't seem to be a one-button approach to doing it. From looking at Netscape's site, go to EDIT, then PREFERENCES, then click on ADVANCED, then click on SYSTEM, and then check every box you see available.

Nope, I went there and all the god damn boxes have been checked, still no luck though.

Actually when I open html from say mirc, Netscape 6 pops up, so it works there, but it still doesn't work when I try to check my mail using MSN Messenger.

Everytime I try to check the mail I get the same message....

"The operation could not be completed because a default Web browser could not be found. Please ensure that you have a Web browser installed and that it is set to be the default Web browser."

So I'm still stuck on that...

Hell, its probably some sh*t from MS wanting to dominate.

When I used Netscape Communicator, the browser and the email application were all part of the same thing. In IE, you have to use Outlook for email, which is what I do, so I must ask: why do you want browser-based email?

I run my Yahoo account through Outlook. Works fine.

I used to have a MSN account, but it was crap. Slower than hell, and it never gave me all my messages.

Well I don't know anything about that Outlook junk, can you set Outlook to check a Netscape account for example?

    Like maybe....ozfanclub@netscape.net?

Can I set outlook to check that?

    If so...how?

Only if netscape.net allows you to connect to their SMTP/POP server.

I check my yahoo mail using Outlook because it allows me access to the SMTP/POP server.

I would suggest shying away from NS 6 -- go with mozilla at http://www.mozilla.org

It's the browser of Netscape 6, but NS 6 was built on like a 0.6 beta. Mozilla is currently at 0.9.7, and is close to going 1.0. I've been using it as my primary broswer since 0.75, and it has become EXCELLENT as of about 0.8.9. I'd suggest downloading it and giving it a whirl.

Well after fighting this problem for a good day now, I've come to the conclusion that this is a MSN Messenger problem instead of a Web Browser problem.

I did download Mozilla though, and I have to say I enjoy it greatly, Thank You Vengeance.

Now the next mission, if someone chooses to take it, is to find out how I can set up Outlook Express to include Netscape.net mail...

After searching the Netscape FAQ, I can't find a thing about configuring Outlook Express for Netscape POP/SMTP mail. The reason for this is simple, I think: Netscape and MS simply don't want to help each other as they make competing browsers and competing email application programs. Given the arch-rival status of those two from the "browser wars", I can't say that I'm suprised.

You can always try this in OE:
Go to Tools-->Accounts and select New. Enter your screen name, email address, and password, and then for the POP address, try pop.mail.netscape.net. That's how I've configured every internet account I've ever had. If it works, then great. If not, get a new email address from a free place like Yahoo, which can be configured for OE and Netscape.

I'd like to sing some praises: I love my Yahoo account. I've changed ISPs several times, but I've never had to change my email address in about 6 years. Thus, no huge emails going out to my entire address book every time I get a new ISP.

Also, I can check my email from any computer anywhere in the world. Of course, you can do this with many providers like Netscape mail, and MSN mail/Hotmail, and the list goes on. The difference is that in Yahoo I don't have the compatibility issues I had running Hotmail, and that you have running MSN mail through Netscape, or Netscape mail through OE, or whatever it is you're trying to do using the applications of two huge rivals together.

Get a Yahoo address. Its the only one who has continued to provide consistant (and free) service.

    A couple of things though:
    1) In order to use Yahoo as a POP server, you have to sign up for the "Yahoo! Delivers" newsletter thingy. No biggie though, and its free. I only occasionally have to delete a message from Yahoo, like once every 2-3 weeks or something. This does NOT lead to spam.
    2) Your SMTP server will have to be whatever your ISP designates. For example: POP servers allow you to receive mail, while SMTP allows you to send mail. The POP server for Yahoo is pop.mail.yahoo.com and the SMTP server should be smtp.mail.yahoo.com. For whatever reason, Earthlink (when I had it) and Road Runner (what I currently have) don't recognize any SMTP but their own. So my POP server is set as pop.mail.yahoo.com, and my SMTP server is set as smtp-server.houston.rr.com. I send and receive all my Yahoo mail through OE including all the various attachments, with no problems at all.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, well I've given up on MSN Messenger, I only used it so I could check my mail and that's not possible anymore.

Thanks for the link Mango, I downloaded the program and I plan on using that from now.

Thanks for the suggestion Lynus about yahoo, I've used yahoo in the past and it's a solid e-mail site.

    Thanks again everyone...
