Go to the sales box at Express and you might get lucky and find a nice polo shirt for about $15. I don't know about cheap dress pants.
If your looking for basic work stuff and don't care too much go to Marshall's and places like that, you can find a lot of stuff. The Marshall's by the galleria has a ton of stuff that is worth it. If not there check out Old Navy, and Gap especially Old Navy they got a ton of cheaper khaki's and stuff like that.
I use to like Banana Republic as the value dress clothes store but Perry Ellis blows Banana Republic out of the freaking water. Kenneth Cole is also better but is the most expensive of the three. As far as values, look for outlet stores where you can easily find $20 - $30 dress shirts. I disagree with Stack on Old Navy and Gap, the dress shirts there just aren't made well. Maybe it's just me but I judge how well dress shirts are made by how little ironing is needed after washing (I don't dry clean). Perry Ellis is the best I've seen in terms of value and quality.
Pink, Zara, Banana, Saks 5th...Go to the mall, find a hot chick at a store, and tell her to make you look good.
I was talking about gap or old navy for the khaki's. I don't shop at either one because i always wear jeans but for shirts i always go to a higher brand because they will last longer. For dress shirts i tend to get Kenneth Cole, and those type brands...tend to last me longer. Even though i barely wear business attire anymore lol
Geez, I think this guy implied he was trying to save a few bucks. Zara, Banana, Express? The posts here are progressively increasing in price. Why stop there? How about Versace? (Although I was actually able to score some Versace shirts for a very good price nearby, but I'm in Florida.)
When I was living off of surplus Student Loan funds but still bombing internship and job interviews every other week, my favorite thing to do was walk through the Roberston Stadium parking lot to the Scott Street Metro stop, get on the 68 Crosstown bus, and head over to K & G Superstore, right before Meyerland Plaza. Had decent suits in Black, Gray and Blue; each for less than $200.00 (but 100% wool in Houston weather), french-cuff shirts for around $20, decent shoes (Bostonian and Florsheim) for less than $50, Sportcoats in the $50-$100 range. Also, no reason not to try JC Penney, Sears or Burlington Coat Factory. Also, if you don't mind waiting 5-10-15 days for shipping, you really ought to consider looking eBay. Lots of retailers selling name-brand (Polo, Nautica) surplus clothing with 25% - 50% markdown.
Find a Stein Mart. Buy clothes from their Alan Flusser line. It's very nice looking clothes with excellent quality, and you can find nice stuff for less than $20 for a shirt or pair of slacks.
Who are you trying to impress? I say if you want something to last.. just wait for a sale at Express or something.
