rusHour, you seem like you want to learn and are willing to "listen." That's a great start. If you're willing to spend a few minutes to a couple of hours, someone at Worst Buy or at Circuit Pity or Conn-victs or at Smears or Fried Electronics or Radio Quacks can explain it to you. There was an Indian chick (well, she seemed from 'the region') at Worst Buy who was very very patient with Mrs. SwoLy and me when it came to learning us about different technologies. We listened to every word and I told my wife to hold on to all questions until she was done, and act like we didn't know squat. Actually, she was on top of the whole thing (that's what she said) and was able to show us the same image from the same source on LCD, PLASMA, DLP, and standard TV. We could tell the difference. We ended up buying a DLP that was off the floor at Circuit Pity . Her explanations were right on the money on everything. This here Mexican ain't lyin' to ya. So get a good lunch, make sure you're awake, and go tell someone at Worst Buy: "Hey, is there someone who can explain to us the difference between all these technologies? I'm confused, man!" like you don't know anything. I really learned more than what I already knew. If you want to go for screen SIZE, DLP. If you want to go with IMAGE, go with LCD. If you want to go with a combination that's not too expensive, go with PLASMA. Anyway, check THIS OUT: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/09/technology/09philips.html and this http://www.audioholics.com/news/ind...is-dead/pioneer-exiting-42-inch-plasma-market .
Plasma is good but has baggage and rumors or half-truths that lead people away from it. The best all around I think is LCD with LEDs instead of fluro. This makes the contrast ratio much better and you can almost get the black blacks like plasma. Much more energy efficient also,.
Samsung LN40A650 It's a 40 inch tv for 1440 with no tax and free shipping. Absolutely amazing. I own 2 DLP's and my brother just recently got a 52 inch version of the tv I just linked here. The picture quality is not even close. The 120 hz on these LCD's makes them look almost 3d like. It's a HUGE difference. Go to the Sony store or Best Buy and check out a blu-ray demo on the Sony Bravia or the Samsung LCD. You will be amazed. The DLP's don't even compare to the picture quality of these LCD's IMO.
out of his price range. The newer DLPs with LED backlighting is great. Also, you can't get a 73inch LCD or Plasma without selling your car. DLP is still is a better value for someone who's looking for a huge screen.
I could go over my price range if it was a smart decision... ie: great deal. Just a matter of comparison. Of course Id much rather go under but see thats why I have yall - to find me the best. Clutchfans never seems to disapoint. Thanks for help thus far especially to a select few for a more conscious effort. But like I said before, at this point I am not picky so it could turn out that I might not druel over sweet tv like I should. Doubt it! Im not picky but I could spend all day looking at the screens in store.
go over to modia if you are in houston (i know some people don't like this place) cause I think they have the best setups for TVs. keep in mind, getting the TV is only the first step. 1. you have to get the components 2. you have to setup the components and tv settings correctly ( make sure Rick Adelman doesn't look like Ron Artest and Yao doesn't look like the human torch) 3. the sound part (could get really complicated and expensive)
Ditto. Just bought a 67" Samsung DLP last month, and am primed for football season. It only cost like $2100 from Circuit City.
^ THAT'S THE WAY TO GO, Mr. Baqui, sir. ^ I bought a 56" DLP for 1200 one year ago. It was a move up from my 53" Hitachi projection heavy TV. One of the things I regret is not going "bigger" that's what she said. We got home, and Mrs. SwoLy said: "We could have gotten a bigger screen. " Me: (on the inside), but really "Nah, it's ok... this is good enough" on the outside. Then I said: "If we stay with this size, I could afford a PS3 later, yes yes?" I think it's in the works.
Amazon sometimes have very good deals on TVs with free shipping (and no tax). I bought my 57" Samsung LED DLP for a very good price last year from Amazon and have been very happy. Costco and Sam's also often have very good deals. Also, you don't need 1080P unless you TV is over 50" and you will be using fully 1080P technology such as Bluray. Nothing comes over cable or satellite yet in 1080P.
Is it really?... How does it compare to the Philips I posted in the other HDTV thread http://www.ecost.com/Detail/TV's/...F/41706181.aspx $834.99 Philips 42PFL3603D 42" LCD TV
the panasonic plasma is a superior TV. better contrast, color accuracy, viewing angles etc than the philips. http://plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmatvreviews/panasonic-th42px75u-review.html
I wish I could watch the olympics in HD. I have an HD 42 LCD tv, but suddenlink up here in Nacogdoches doesn't carry the olympics in HD (no HD NBC). The only HD I could see was HDT (?) channel, but I have basic HD channels.
do you have USAHD or UNIHD Im seeing HD Olympic stuff on USAHD, NBCHD, and UNIHD and SD stuff on NBC, USA and MSNBC At the very least you should have USA if you have the extended basic cable package
My goodness! That's got to be the highest I've seen! Hey tinman, I've heard some 720p models will do 1080i... is there anything to that?
oh the contrast ratio is crap. all manufacturers use some deceptive testing on that, they call it 'dynamic' contrast. all 720p tvs do 1080i, they just convert it to 720p. i tried switching resolutions on my cablebox and i can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080i
video games and if you can plug your pc into your tv, you can set your video card to that resolution. you thinking of getting that samsung plasma? i know people with samsung plasmas and they are pretty happy with them.
Anyone interested in a $499 32" shipped, no tax HDTV LCD and PC monitor? PM me and I will give you the site, it's very popular, but they still haven't sent mine so I will post the link next week when I get it.
Well, I've been leaning toward an LCD for the longest... Philips has a 42" that has a 29,000:1 contrast ratio... for about a grand... it's 1080p... Costco and Sam's have it IIRC... I'm not quite ready to invest in one yet though. But I'm getting closer. I really dug the older Samsungs that looked like the window in the Death Star.
