Peterson won't get it, but should...I think White will win it and have a mediocre NFL career... Benson will be a stud in the NFL...
I think Leinart will win it, although I think White had a better season. I think the fact that Peterson is a freshman will hurt him, since voters probably just think they'll vote for him next year. I think there's a big drop-off after those three. Bush and Smith will probably get 4-5, with some combination of Cadillac Williams, Aaron Rodgers, JJ Harrington and Jason Campbell also receiving consideration.
I'd say AP is the best player of the finalists, but since he's not even the best player at his position, I don't think he deserves the Heisman. Jason White is probably almost as deserving as Matt Leinart, but there's no way he's a two-Heisman type player. So, I guess what I'm saying is I think Leinart should win it
Benson gets a little revenge beating Peterson for the Doak Walker Award, which goes to the best running back in the nation.
so he's giving the one from last year back? how can those two games be freebies? he holds off his two worst games (in his two biggest games) but just happens to do it after the vote, making the voters look bad. then he comes back this year and puts up a horrendous performance in his next big game (3 turnovers and 113 yards against UT) and he's supposed to be immortalized as a two time heisman winner? if he's going to be the best player 2 years running, then i'd like to look at all the games he played, not just the ones that happen to get squeezed in after the first vote but before the next season. and if benson's 92 yards against ou are held against him, i'd sure think 3 horrible games like that should be. his stats are as good as anyone (pretty much the same as leinart with about 5 more td's) but it's hard to say he's a two time heisman winner with those 3 games on his resume. give it to the guy who has won like 21 in a row and has basically the same stats. and at least benson got the doak walker. apparently they realize he's better than peterson but he can't even get to NY over him.
OH MY GOD pollack over DJ for the bednarik? are you ****ing kidding me? what a friggin' joke. even pollack thinks it is. DJ is so far and away the best defensive player it's stupid. it was one thing to lose the lombardi (a lineman award typically) to pollack, but the bednarik. JOKE!
Agreed. Johnson is the best player in the nation regardless of position, I'd be surprised f even T_J or bigtexx would argue that. The look on both DJ and Pollack's face were priceless, they were both like WTF?!? Nice to see Pollack say he even thought Johnson was a shoe in.
Ridiculous. DJ losing any award he is up for is unacceptable. Even Pollack couldn't believe that DJ lost the Lombardi AND the Bednarik. Ridiculous. And...how does the winner of a best RB award not get invited to NY when two other RB's are invited?
Of course I agree that DJ is one of, if not THE best defensive player in the nation. He's a beast and fast as hell. I'm friends with his cousin (who was an awesome basketball player at Rice) and met DJ over last Christmas when I was in Waco. He's a scary man.
So I guess Carson Palmer shouldn't have won it because he stunk until his senior year? Maybe they should've given it to a player that won a lot of games like Ken Dorsey?
did he suck during his senior year? did he suck in his last two big games, Notre Dame and his bowl game? jason white can have one heisman. either he can have last year's and i'll tack those last two onto this year or he can have this one and i'll put those two on last year and take that away. since i can't take the first away, i don't see any reason he should get a second one. hopefully, reasonable voters (those who gave it to him last year and then looked bad afterwards) agree.
Was not Jason White injured during the K-State and LSU games? I recall him having an injury to his hand, which prevented him from throwing effectively. Had he been healthy last year, OU could be looking at 3 national titles in 5 years.
No Cedric Benson? No Jason Campbell? Gimme a break. This award is a friggin' joke and has been for a loooooong time.
Did White suck in his senior year? If White 'sucked' this year so did Mr. Leinart. He had one 'bad' game, against a good defense and a top 4 team. Leinart had one 'bad' game against an average defense/team.
He had a broken hand and surgery on either his foot or knee a few weeks after the season. Could've won the Sugar Bowl with him healthy, but not KSU...Jason White didn't play D.
