    Forget about Pettitte...

Trade Wagner, then open up the wallet for Tejada. The Astros have the pitching. It's their hitting that failed them this season...

    A-train.....

Pitching WINS in the post season, and it gets you there.

I would rather have Petitt then Tejada.

The pitching didn't completely shut down for weeks at a time last season. There were way too many Astrodome-esque scores...

Pitching wins in the postseason, true, but it's the Astro bats that have consistantly failed when it's come playoff time. Given the choice between Pettite and Tejada, I'd take Tejada any day.

Pettite is an average pitcher whose 4.02 ERA wouldn't have won him 20 games anywhere else besides with the Yankees. He gave up way too many hits to be considered a top-of-the-line pitcher, and he's going to command top dollar on the open market. With the Astros, he'd win maybe 13-14 games if he has a similar season to last year.

Tejada, on the other hand, would be the best shortstop in the National League. He'd represent a huge OPS increase over Adam Everett and provide the team with a young MVP-caliber player.

My guess, though, is the Stros will sign neither guy and pretty much maintain the status quo for next season. If they trade Wagner it'll be a salary-dump move, not to pick up another guy.

Bill Gates needs to just buy this team already.

Tejada would be nice, but he's not exactly Mr. Playoffs, either. Tejada to the Anaheim Angels?

I guess that's why everyone wants him. He'd be a perfect fit in the middle of the lineup with Bags and Biggio. They could go a collective 0-12 every playoff game.

I think wags can bring in some talent, whether we get to dump salary in the process.

Maybe we could trade him in a slary dump move to free up money to go after a quality SP.

Well, even with this postseason performance, he still has a higher average, better slugging percentage than both Bagwell and Biggio, seven more extra base hits in the postseason that Bagwell and Biggio combined, and 3 more RBIs than those two combined. He also has the same number of post season strikeouts as Bagwell despite 39 more at bats...So he obviously couldn't be any worse than those two.

Of course, a blind midget with a prosthetic leg wouldn't be worse than Bagwell and Biggio in the postseason...

Well a blind midget couldn't see the ball to hit it.

Colon or Petite sounds good. I wonder if Javier Vazquez is also available.

If Reynolds is available at a bargain price. I'd bring him back.

    Imagine:

    Oswalt
    Miller
    Colon or Petite or Vazquez
    Redding or Reyonolds
    Robertson

Let's do what the A's do and solidify the starting rotation and with the leftover crumbs ($), whoever the GM is, let's hope he's creative enough to land a solid bat and speed to the line-up.

Cubs did not win Central standing put. Although the Stros implosion at the close was critical.
