I would bring him back for the playoffs... 3rd catcher only of course... unofficial coach....

They usually like having a 3rd catcher for the playoffs who never plays.

Maybe a late (13th inning) inning defensive replacement since no automatic runner in playoffs to keep from getting to 3rd with no outs.

I trust his game calling but not his arm...

Defensive replacement? I think you meant pass ball specialist. Lol

This is just a cleverly disguised Dmo v TJones thread.

No on Martin Maldonado, got humbled with no playing time this year with the White Sox. Terrible Arm, Pitch Framer, Can't move to block pitches in the Dirt, Can't hit.

Both Former Astros Minor Leaguers Korey Lee and Chuck Robinson now on the White Sox passed up on Martin Maldonado. Humbled.

Christian Vazquez I believe would be a Great Coach for Catchers.

Cesar Salazar would be better at handling pitches from Neris... just to bring us back on topic.

I’m still shocked that the Astros were able to nab him?

Is there any rule that would prevent him from being Playoff eligible? Because As far as I knew if he’s on the roster as of August 31st, he should be eligible.

if anything, he gives the relief pitchers a chance to recover.

They're all Maldanado and Dusty threads if the right mix of posters who can't let go of the past are around.

I'm expecting he would get used like Salazar last year... which is virtually none at all.

Did the Cubs break Hector Nerris? It seems every time he pitches, he’s going to give up a run or two. When I saw him come out in the 12 inning, my gut said this is when the Astros wall of pitching goes down.

Last year Nerris was magical, and definitely amongst the best relievers in all of baseball. I wonder if the Cubs pitching coaches tinkered with his delivery turning him into a replacement level reliever. To me it seems unlikely the Astros unlock that swag which Nerris pitched last season. But if he can find his groove, he is nails…

One of the better plot lines of this season.
