I should have known better. Honestly wasn't trying to trigger anyone, but I'll try to be more sensitive to those who may still need a little more time to heal.

Signing Neris is what trading for a guy like Cahna would have done for the offense.

It doesn't raise the ceiling of possibility much if at all, but it will raise the floor.

Too long and unnecessary. Honestly, just go back and read the other many threads on this subject.
Getting gullible fans to buy into the Maldy fairy tale was his true talent. Dusty really helped him of course.

It’s like when you talk to a casual fan who still thinks Maldy was great at defense. Just roll your eyes and change the subject.

Your anger is misplaced. We are trying. That poster was in here last year trying to defend Dusty. Seems that every Maldy fan is also a Dusty fan. They are a package deal. Also, giving away the ALCS last year still hurts and will for a long time. **** Dusty, **** Maldy, **** the Rangers. Forever.

I don't know what Maldonado has to do with Hector Neris - but I really hope that he wants to come back into the organization. When you have people like Sarah Gelles and Josh Miller calling your understanding of pitching as brilliant, then you are probably valuable for an organization.

Sarah thinks he’s brilliant? Oh by all means then. The company line at the time. Let’s see if the White Sox offer him a coaching job.

Let's keep it that way and shut all notion of him coming back as a player or coach.

If the Astros can channel Neris of last year that would be a huge boost

The hate that Maldy gets baffles me.

Let me be clear, he regressed due to age drastically his last couple of seasons here and I understand why nobody, including me, wants him on the Astros as a player.

But too many people who know more than I do or ever will swear by his abilities off of the field and generally appear to love the guy for him to be dismissed.

IMO there is no scenario where the Astros are better without him in the organization than in as long as he's not playing.

And as for selfishness or poor attitude - no way I believe any if it based on what people who know him and work with him have said.

Hector Neris Begins, excellent. highly recommend. Is this being directed by Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan...

You also bought the company line. That’s all it was. Maldy crapped on Diaz in that interview and showed his true colors. Dusty was starting Maldy and that was final. The Astros PR had to spin it. Maldy and all his brilliance were not asked to stay.

You and I have continuous disagreements and that's fine.

I simply don't understand the hate. I don't understand why so many people who have careers on the line, back him if he's terrible.

As for Dusty starting him over Diaz, that was Dusty not him and for the record feel it was the worst managing decision (especially from a results point) in Astros history. None of that is his fault.

And please send a link to this interview that you are referencing.

I’m not gonna waste my time looking for the interview. I wasn't the only one who saw it. Once Dusty was gone the Astros could freely get rid of Maldy, which they did. No other team he played for was as attached to him as Dusty was and he wasn’t usually the first string catcher until he was an Astro.

Of course players and front office people spoke highly of Maldy when asked. Click tried to replace him and so did Brown.

Some Astro fans just really want to buy into the storybook narrative that Maldy is somehow a brilliant savant with pitching. They want to believe this even though the numbers don’t back it.

As a coach or as someone that works with the pitching staff.

    Roving Minor League Instructor.

Gets to spend 4+ months in Florida, the other 3+ just traveling around, the other 3+ at home.

    Maybe later...who knows?

There are no numbers to back anything up.

Since we are talking about how valuable or good he would be in a non-playing role, none of his on-field results mean anything.

There's lots of numbers backing Neris coming back, which is what this thread is about.

I am talking about that. You want him back based on the relationship you think he had with pitchers. You want him based on what you have been told about his handling of the staff and his clubhouse presence. I am saying that stuff was highly exaggerated.
