LA looks as if Odom could be gone. Replacing Ariza with Artest was a very bad move IMO for chemistry reasons both on and off the court but if Odom is lost too then LA is sunk IMO. I think Utah's window has already closed (if they ever had a window) but losing Boozer would assure that. San Antonio added a lot of talent and by not going deep in the playoffs or having half their team playing in international competition I think they will be rested and ready to go this season.
i agree. i hope odom signs with another team. that'll show the lakers. they lose two integral parts of their championship team. im pretty impressed with the SA moves so far. mcdyess and jefferson for a bunch of fillers? the haislip signing is pretty good too.
Odom contacted LAL owner Jerry Buss recently to continue contract negotiations. Odom realizes that LA's going to once again contend for a title, and it's a great fit for his style of play. He should stay with the big-market team, rather than accept Miami's offer, which was equal to the Lakers'.
Lakers offered him 4 yr 36M, which is more money with less years. Odom's agent just overplayed his cards.
Lakers offered Odom 3 years/$27 million. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...dom_called_buss_attempting_to_reignite_talks/
goodbug, you're right in the fact that the Heat offered him a loftier contract, though. The Heat offered Odom 5 year/$34 million. My mistake.
there were two offers from the lakers - the other was 4 years/$36 mill. it was odoms choice and he waffled so i guess buss got pissed and rescinded them.
This could work if the Heat: Trade Jermaine O'Neal (23 mil) + Trade Exception 4.2 Mil (Marcus Bank) = 26.2 mil For Carlos Boozer (12.6 mil) + Andrei Kirilenko (16.4) = 29 mil Trade works within 125% salaries rule. Heat get Boozer but have to pay Kirilenko for one extra year. Jazz save 6 million this season and 17 million next year with Kirilenko off the books.
I believe the 4 years was at the team's option, with a $3M buyout. So like $30M over 3 years. There seems to be different amounts reported though, but on lakersground it seems like most don't think a guarenteed 4th year was ever offered.
there are a few different scenarios that have been reported and the previously linked article in this thread didnt mention it, but what i had heard a few times was that odom was given a choice of a 3 or 4 year deal - odom waffled on it and w/out warning buss took it off the table. here is one link talking about the 4 year/$36 deal. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers-lamar-odom15-2009jul15,0,5773043.story "Lakers team officials, who were not authorized to speak about the negotiations, said Buss offered Odom a deal for $9 million a season for four years at $36 million, or $10 million a season over three years for a total of $30 million. Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, were looking for $10 million a year over five seasons." this could become very sprewellian for him....
Anyone hearing $40 million for 4 years to Odom by the Lakers? My friend just gave me this rumor. If so, man did Odom use the Heat, hahaha.
If true that's a lot of money for a distant 3rd/4th best player for the Lakers. Kobe >>>>>>>>>>> Gasol >>>>> Artest ≥ Odom
So begins the end of the Los Angeles Lakers!!!! Ariza and Odom for Artest? Lakers got the crappy end of the deal on that.
in terms of responsibilities, odom is more important than artest. they know how crucial odom is and odom knows that. he'll stay with the lakers eventually. lakers will NOT go to the finals without odom
