Scola didn't come here to sit the bench at 27 years of age and wait until he is 30 to start playing big minutes and being a real contributer. He came here this season for the sole purpose to play a significant role in the teams success this season. Adleman and morey didn't bring him here to sit the bench. He will be playing and playing well, he fits in the offensive game plan well because of his ability to pass, he can hit the 15 footer and he can play screen and roll with the guards. He will set screens with no thought of sacrificing his body, he can run the floor and he is mobile, He isn't a stationary player, he has stride,he can get into the cracks offensively for a 4. His only troubles will come on the defensive end,so what the team will need is a veteran that will bang, rebound and change the game a little bit to balance out scolas' positives offensively.

if morey ever did that trade, all of his good trades this offseason would be negated...we sholdn't blink...I rather keep Rafer than trade him for doleac...they need to give us haslem...and we can throw in something else...

How many times have we heard people say that? And then watch a crazy trade go down.

Why wouldn't we bank on him? If this were a highly touted young PF we had just drafted I would assume you would give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he would contribute right? Well Scola is a highly touted young PF at the time he was drafted who happened to get 5 years of overseas basketball experience. So what makes him any different then a PF that was drafted, or a Chuck Hayes that came out of nowhere to contribute?

Someone please help me on this, if Haslem comes to Rockets, he will start, and Scola becomes a backup. Did Rockets promise Scola a starting position before signing him?

LOL, as much as I like Rafer, basically he's a one-dimensional player.
When you trade a one-dimensional player, you will get another one back! Heck I want to trade TC's sanitor for "youth, talent, athleticism and skill".
    but it aint gonna happen.

At this point we cant have another all-round PF, we hope Scola can be that.
we just need a strong rebounder & above-average defender at 4. Foster fits this role ok.

Are you saying Scola will start immediately?

I think any trade at this point in time has to have these objectives in order of priority:

    1) Reduce the roster.

    2) Get out of the luxury tax / make cap space.

    3) Improve the roster.

Why did I say improve the roster last? It is because I think we have sufficiently upgraded the roster already for THIS season. We have made a significant number of short term moves. Only remaining short term move to make is to reduce the roster. Our next step is to prepare for the long term; make space for major signings for the 2008/2009 season, etc. So we'd better start freeing cap space soon.

Therefore, any trade in which we get 2 players for 1, and even 1 player for 1(unless the player can be waived on the cheap) is frankly not a wise move.

Will Kevin Durant and Greg Oden start immediately? Aren't they unproven and have never played a single NBA game too?

Scola COULD very well start immediately.

I believe Scola will not only start from the very beginning, I see him getting big minutes (30+) every night.

I can't speak for daddy cool, but I'll say it...Scola will open the season as the starting PF.

Even Adelman says, he hasn't penciled Scola as the starting PF. He'll do the evaluations in training camp.

Considering the alternatives at PF, Scola absolutely will start immediately -- and he will play the great bulk of the minutes.

Of course Adelman said that, he has to especially since training camp hasn't even started. The only starters "penciled" in are Yao and TMAC and maybe Battier at this point.

Yeah, you're right the only starters right now are Tmac, Yao, and maybe Battier.
