I think it is one deal that makes both teams better.

I do not trade Alston for scraps (Doleac) unless maybe we a 1st out of it. Alston if better than Jeff Blake, and you saw teams go after him. Alston (or James) are two of the more viable players that can immediately help Mia (or say the) Clips without costing and arm and leg (1st rounders or young talent).

Haslem is my preference, but SAR or Marshall for Alston + excess players (Snyder, JL3, Novak) would be OK. I would probably also want at least an extra 2nd rounder too in an Alston + scraps deal, maybe two 2nds.

SAR or Marshall would be enough insurance for Scola flaking. I'd rather have Haslem/Scola, but Scola-Hayes-Marshall/SAR would be OK at PF.

I dont know if this has been mentioned, but Doleac is an expiring contract. You get another tradeable asset in Doleac to package with Sura. You also get out of skips contract and get rid of a player who would not play anyways. Its a shrewd move by our GM if it happens.

actually i take that back. SAR does bring some of the skills the rockets could use at the PF and like someone else said its good insurance to scola.

im just skeptical of entering the season with 2 faux, and 1 rookie, pg.

Man it sure is nice talking about the Rockets when we feel we have a team full of talent and are dealing from a position of strength.

I'm convinced that one of the things holding up this deal is Justin Reed. He can't be traded until August 14 (as several posters have already said), and the Rockets are looking to shed multiple players in exchange for another power forward or backup center.

Alston + Reed has got to be the package being offered, since both are (essentially) under contract for multiple seasons. Perhaps Luther is being dangled as well, since Mike James is basically a better version of Head. Maybe Snyder's expiring contract.

At this point, unless it will help the Rockets get a high-quality player, I hope the Rockets don't use Sura's contract in any trade packages. Les Alexander has been so good this summer about spending money. It would be nice to see the Rockets save some money (up to $6.6M) but simply waiving . . . I mean, allowing Sura to retire a Rocket. That's more money that the Rockets could spend next summer or at the trade deadline.

You're right on about money management. At this point our focus should be on a backup PF/C to guard post players, then to cut costs no matter the trade discrepency. If we manage to land, say, Foster for Sura's contract + Head + a 2nd rounder, I don't mind getting a crap trade such as Doleac for Alston. We've got Bonzi and Steve to think about signing next year if they manage to pan out and I want the money available.

Just throwing something out there, so there is no reason for a new thred...I wonder if the Rockets would be willing to part with James + Reed for Haslem.

I read in some Chron blog from the writer that we are over the lux cap already. Does anyone know if this is true? Like most owners, I don't think Les is willing to pay the tax. I don't blame him. If we are, we might just do something people around here won't like very much. Think our trade with Utah and the horrid Phoenix trade this year.

A lot of these new guys dont realize how much stock Hoops World has around here...

I think Les is willing to pay the tax if we are contending this year.

I'm new, but I already independently came to that conclusion about Hoopsworld....at least a dozen times they printed stuff as if it were fact that never materialzied. Shareef doesn't make sense...he's againg quickly, plays no defense, and is due 5.5 a year till 2010....that would really kill our cap. I'm in the honeymoon stage with Morey....but I would totally be upset if this came true. Hopefully, its just another Hoopsworld opinion that I can easily dismiss.

I love how people bank on Scola. We need to get a proven PF. If we could swing a deal involving Rafer + Hayes/Reed or even someone like Snyder to get a proven starting PF, like Haslem, then we need to do it. Scola could very well be a stud in the future, but we can't expect that from him, just look at who we traded to get him. Things don't always work out, especially when it comes to the Rockets. ;)

It's just my opinion but i disagree. I hope this is not true. I know you said "if" we contend.....but would les think that any backup would suddenly put us over the top? Would he be willing to bet the astronomical amount of money that he would have to pay out of his own pocket? We already had the greatest group of players ever assembled and didn't win squat. I just hope everyone doesn't explode (fat chance in hell of that happening) if Les does something cost and contract cutting. Draft choice and Rafer/other players to someone with cap for a piece of poo and a trade exception. I hope it doesn't happen but wouldn't rule it out.

Les Alexander is unique in eschewing paying the lux tax. Sarver wouldn't let lux cap compel a trade of KT & 2 #1s just for cap relief. Everyone else this side of Cubes, MS Allen, and Zeke the GM Freke kills to stay short of the tax. Nugs are in crocodile tears over their cap plight.

Very far from me defending Les Alex but on this issue he has a pass.

Why would the Rockets trade a guy that they just got in Mike James?? Especially, considering how the first time they traded him, it was a mistake. Mike James isn't going anywhere this season, get over it Alston fanboy.

I guess you are one of the few that would not be surprised and would grudgingly accept if something people didn't like happened. I don't think it would cost 2 #1's tho. Rafers contract is not huge. Would that even get us under the tax tho? I don't have any numbers on hand. This entire board would **** themselves if something like that happened. It's not our multi-millions after all.
