sorry I didn't clarify, I think the rockets can do better now than Doleac now, and later.. my thinking is exactly what u said about scarping 2K8 and looking to the future and then the rockets are left hanging onto Rafer.. at the very least I'd like to see the rockets get a 1st rounder if they are going to get back Doleac...

You're right about Bonzi. The Rockets could offer up to the MLE for him since they'd have his Early Bird Rights. Francis is who the Rockets will need to use their MLE on next year.

As for Butler, the Rockets have a team option on him for 2008-09.

^^^^^^^^^^Correction: The Rockets can offer Bonzi up to the average player salary (which is the same salary amount as the MLE), without having to use the MLE.

I'd offer Bonzi a 15% discount on his next fat ho and show him the door.

Francis already has a contract for next year. He can opt out if he wants but he's already shown he's not looking for a big pay day. If Francis opts out, it's because of playing time.

Agreed. Doleac plus 1st rounder would be okay.

The added bonus is Miami would be stuck with Rafer! though injuries aside, that should be a decently highly seeded playoff team in the East...meaning the draft pick loses some value.

As has been mentioned, the other added benefit is Doleac's trade value near the trading deadline.

    Would you do

Rafer + JLIII for Donyell Marshall + 1st round pick

Throwing in the 1st round pick from Cleveland since they really shouldn't care too much about them going forward and they also really really need a PG. Rafer would be a decent fit with that team, imo.

Has this offseason struck you as not improving everywhere?? We have upgraded every - single - position on our roster with a younger or more valuable player with skills. The final piece to the puzzle is a PF/C in the mold of Foster/Varaejo to specifically guard the unstoppable post presences we face in the Western Conference, ie. the Boozers, Brands, Duncans, Dirks, Garnetts, Amares. We use Scola as the default starting PF. Let him try to contain these PF's. When that fails - and it will eventually in the game - you sacrifice his offense for a purely defensive PF who can actually "measure" up to the competition..*cough* not Hayes. Trust me, bringing in Foster or Varaejo to stop the hemmoraging that Boozer/Amare can definately cause is worth the sacrifice of our 4th option on offense (Scola).

Think about other team's strengths too please..we need counters for that.

Well in fairness, Hayes is woefully undersized for a PF unlike Foster.

FYI, never quote Hoopsworld, as we have all discovered over the years of horrible reporting that, nothing that site says ever happens. Its the basketball version of the National Inquirer, Star, and all those crap news mags.

We get an offense/defense substitution combo with Foster/Scola. I believe foster is an improvement over hayes.

Doleac, Quinn and a future pick for Rafer would be acceptable to me.

Rockets: Trade with HEAT, Kings Coming?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For weeks now we've been hearing about the Miami HEAT and their interest in Rafer Alston. The predominant rumor has Udonis Haslem coming to Houston, or possibly with Mike Doleac. Doleac wouldn't be a bad deal, given the Rockets' need for a back-up to Yao Ming (Mutombo may retire) but their notable shortage at power forward makes Haslem the better choice. Haslem is a proven starter, though whether or not he would start in front of Luis Scola (who stayed away from the Spurs because he wanted to start) is unclear. Haslem also brings something the Rockets would very much like to add: championship experience.

Doleac is serviceable. He gets hurt a lot and when he's healthy he's basically average, but he's a great locker room guy and also has that aforementioned championship experience. The Rockets really aren't interested in taking Doleac, as they would be in trouble if he was the only thing left in the event of a Yao injury. The HEAT, though, aren't crazy about parting with Haslem, and are looking for deals that don't involve disrupting their core group.

Giving up Rafer Alston makes sense, as he is currently the fourth point guard in Houston. He knows Miami, the fans loved him while he was there, and he's a legit floor leader. He's exactly what the HEAT need alongside Dwyane Wade in the backcourt. The question becomes: what do the Rockets get back?

One rumor has Mike Bibby coming to Houston, but that makes absolutely no sense. Adelman and Bibby weren't exactly best friends, and the last thing the Rockets need is another attitude-laden point guard. A more likely scenario would be Shareef Abdur-Rahim to Houston with a re-signed James Posey going to Sacramento and Alston going to Miami. Abdur-Rahim won't beef about playing behind Scola and he will give the Rockets additional depth at the four/five. The HEAT would much rather move Posey than Haslem and Posey has already had discussions with the Kings that are said to have gone well.

It seems clear that the Rockets are close to finding a solution to their "shortage" in the front court and their crowd in the backcourt. Houston fans can only hope Daryl Morey and Rick Adelman know what they're doing in giving up a great team player like Alston in favor of two me-first guards in Mike James and Steve Francis.

so far this is the latest.

says we could trade rafer to the heat and the heat send posey to the kings and the Kings send Shareef Abdur-Rahim to Houston. I like this trade if it happens what about you guys?
