You're getting this from the Miami press, so of course they're going to be talking about the trade they'd prefer. Just like our side focuses on Haslem.

Haslem for Rafer is a bit of a robbery.
Rafer for Doleac is a steal for them.

Alston, Head, and Sura (and a 2nd rd pick?) for Haslem and Doleac isn't bad for either side. Haslem's a well-priced second tier PF in a leage that has few quality bigs to go around, and trading big for small always requires a premium. Doleac is a contract dump. Sura is added cap relief for them. Rafer and Head would have minutes there, not here.

except for the fact that they would have a huge hole at PF and a glut of average guards

Looks like the Rockets might hang on to Alston until midseason when teams get desperate.

I could handle Rafer on our team come training camp, but if he starts to falter then I'd like to see him on the bench, inactive list, and potentialliy traded come February.

Reported earlier (in several appropriate Threads), but Rafer for EXPIRING CONTRACTS (Doleac/Simien) would be a good deal for Rox IMO.

If February is not a time of Rox strength expirings might just get the Good Guys a SPLASH.

Tell Pat, go fxxk themselves, and good luck finding themselves a NBA guard with Doleac.

I really don't think the Heat are going to move Haslem for Rafer period. If they get Doleac out the deal, I would be happy. This team just need another big body that's durable, rebounds and plays defense....it's really simple. They are sold that Scola will be able to score in the paint in some capacity, so another 4 that does dirty work seems to fit the bill. I like Haslem, but it seems to be a reach

I'd rather have Jeff Foster anyway....I think he would fit in great

I know Les probably likes expiring contracts. But why do we as fans want that? Its not like we will ever be under the cap. Not the way we chase talent. Not with two middle aged guaranteed max players. Expiring contracts get us nowhere. We have to at least hope for someone who can contribute right? Maybe a pick/prospect at worst. I mean Alston will definitely be getting 25+mpg wherever he goes... Its not out of the question to covet a rotation player.

Expirings would be fine, but I'd like to get an expiring that would actually contribute. If the Rox take Doleac, I would hope that they would get a draft pick out of the deal. Dorrell Wright would be nice (dreaming).

Keeping Rafer would be fine by me as long as we have Hayes (assuming he gets re-signed). The Heat are in the more desperate situation - not us. Morey knows that and he is not going to give in and do a deal involving Doleac - at least I hope he doesn't.

I'd do Doleac + Simien for Alston in a split second. It balances out our roster perfectly, we cant head into training camp after that.

Even if Doleac and Simien are BOTH useless, we save $$$ in the deal.

With Shaq, Mourning, Haslem and Walker I have to think those two players are expendeable to them right now. They'd just have to sign PJ Brown and be done with it.

We'd have an even bigger roster though, which seems to be getting out of control.

Maybe we can make it a 3-way, and deal out Doleac + Lucas + Sura for another player. We should be able to get something decent since all 3 of those guys are expiring. Who's trying to dump salary?

Pacers have Tinsley, Diener, Armstrong, Owens, and Daniels to cover the point.

The only other team might be Magic didn't someone post something about Stan Van Gundy was interested in Alston? Adelman likes Turkeyglu, maybe that's an option. Alston + Snyder for Turkeyglu?

Expirings at The Deadline = OPPORTUNITY. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Morey will not do this deal. I like to get Foster or Evens, any big PF like this is ok. Also Rox will not go the draft or money, they want to win now.

Doubt it, but that might not be a bad idea... Takes up a roster spot though.

Which leaves them with nothing at the PF position

I can't imagine that Morey is willing to trade Rafer Alston for a package of Doleac and Simien - and not because I think it's a bad trade. Two expiring contracts is ok from a business perpective, but one of our biggest problems right now is that we have too many contracts. We need to be making 2 for 1 deals, not the reverse.

Except that we're carrying 17 contracts, 15 guaranteed, not counting Hayes and Deke. We're over the lux tax as it stands, also. I don't find it likely that Les will allow DM to stash anyone through February.

My guess is Mike Harris gets released, Sura is bought out if he isn't traded come Oct 30, JL3 is traded for a 2nd rounder. Given the depths at most positions and lack of minutes, I'd consider Rafer, Head, and Novak in the trade pile.

As far as Doleac, I liked his game a few years ago, he's a native Texan, and he would work well in the high post. Still, he really struggles to contribute outside of a stray high post jumper and a few odd defensive boards. He's okay as part of a Yao insurance policy, but that's not your best investment of 3 thousand dollars when you're already on the wrong side of the luxury tax. Only if Deke retires would I be happy about getting Doleac.
