Not true at all, we are certainly at odds regarding this issue, and your belief that this year's Rocket team is dissappointing, but other than those 2 things, I agree a lot with you Max.

So, we disagree. At least I can spell, "dumb". :p

Agreed! And the player whose life he doesn't want to disclose has no obligation to answer whatsoever. Yet, he felt the need to lie, and then massage everyone who's watching with this "everyone who knows me knows that this is true" BS. Wow. How you can just dismiss that is unreal.

And if the argument is, "well if he doens't comment he just looks guilty," the obvious answer is "BINGO!!" He is guilty!!

"Lying is way ok with me." Gotcha.

I can't believe Im defending DaDa here, but this is unfair.

I'm not saying its ever ok to lie, and those of us who do, no matter how good our intentions, have to live with that. But you should at least respect the fact that certain situations present themselves where it is more tempting to do so than others.

Sure it's more tempting. But it's just as wrong.

Andy is still lying IMO because you don't take 1 or 2 shots of GH. You take it every single day for months before you get any results at all. It has to build up in your system.

Have you been in a position where the press is prying into private matters, that are none of their business?

Because if you had, you would understand what I am talking about.

And yes, sometimes lying is ok....especially when dealing with the press on private matters.

He didn't want to get his dad in trouble.....I guess you would just rat your dad out...right?

I already answered this earlier. But I'll state further: I hope (see earlier post) that I would either offer no comment at all or tell the truth, regardless of the cost.

It hasn't involved the press (a pressure I certainly do *not* understand), but I have told the truth before--on more than one occasion--when lying would have been much more comfortable, convenient, and even affordable.

We disagree. Completely and utterly. I'd rather you or anyone say nothing at all than utter lies. If the press is "pressing" into private matters, then (and I don't know about the rest of America) I'll respect you a lot more if you say, "that's none of your damn business, butt the hell out."

Clemens' potential reason to lie to Congress is that he's trying to maintain his own reputation/legacy/etc. McNamee's potential reason to lie to investigators would be that he might have been coerced or what not. Pettitte's reason to lie to the press was to maintain his reputation or to protect his father or whatever.

Pettitte has no such reason to lie to Congress that I can see. And if he did, he would lie in the opposite direction - he wouldn't bring up the extra HGH use that no one asked him about. He has no beef with Clemens to make something up against him. So what reasons do we have that suggests that he would lie to Congress?

OK, fine by me....different rule set. I would have no problem lying to someone just to get them to leave me alone......

And in all drug type of cases, usually the guy that is testifying against people has credibility issues.....

    So what...??????

It's sad watching you guys shred Andy to pieces while not even having any doubts about Roger.

If Andy is the piece of trash you guys want to make him out to be, why didn't he just deny McNamee's allegations? Him and Roger together might have had a pretty good chance of fighting this off.

Andy's no saint, he's human. Just because other people are sanctifying him doesn't mean you guys have to demonize him. I just want to hear a reasonable hypothesis for why Andy would lie about Roger discussing HGH with him.

Yeah, this is one of the silliest parts of the whole fiasco -- it's like the guy who only did one line of coke or the girl who only ate one Lay's potato chip.

Roidger needs to take a lesson in friendship and honor from Andy Pettite.

Andy apologized, and spoke about McNamee as a friend.

Roidger, through EVERYONE under the bus.

    His friend Andy
    His friend McNamee
    His wife Debbie
    His mom

    Roidger deserves everything he gets.

    codell --

i could absolutely see me trying to hide it like crazy. doing everything i could to avoid it. what i can't see me doing is holding a press conference "to come clean." to push back the lies.

and then lying like crazy to the world.

i'd like to think i wouldn't do that. and if i did, i certainly wouldn't want you to champion me as noble because i did.

as an aside...please stop calling me religious...i run from that word.

He didn't have to rat out his dad.

He also didn't have to say, "Press...show up at 3 p.m. so we can talk about this. I want to make matters clear....I've only used HGH twice in my life and it was related to an injury...." when that was a flat out lie. He didn't get caught or backed in a corner. He made a plan to go before the press and tell an absolute lie.

I can forgive him for that with no problem. No problem at all.

What I find hard to believe is the adoration he's gotten for it.

So you would stage a press conference with the intent to lie?

Remember...Andy's statements were just that...from a PREPARED STATEMENT. He wan't cornered by the media. HE ISSUED A STATEMENT. He prepared it with the assistance of counsel. And then published it.

Certainly not beyond forgiveness...certainly not criminal....but definitely not heroic, either. I heard two different sports radio shows talk about how good he's come off in this...and I think it's largely because people forget the sequence of what's happened.

He simply released a written statement the first time, no? I don't think he ever had a press conference - at least, I heard that yesterday's was the first time he's actually spoken to the media about it. I could be wrong - I don't remember much about the initial statement.

It was a presser that he scheduled (or his peeps scheduled), about 2 days after the Mitchell Report came out.
