Essentially putting them back where they were, except they now have a player that can legitimately score from the post and the heart not to allow any more upset losses to eighth seeded upstarts...
Funny how all this wouldn't have happened if they just agreed to include Bynum in the proposed trade for Kidd back in February.
But they still would be crushed by San Antonio, Phoenix and probably us. A team comprised of Dirk, Kobe and fillers (yes, Devin Harris is a filler in my eyes) would make it past the first round but there's no way they'll go to the Finals.
Here are interviews with both Kobe and PJ from earlier today. The PJ interview is a shortened portion of my prior post. FWIW, Kobe denies cleaning out his locker. http://cbs2.com/sports/local_story_289184701.html
But they won't be losing to eighth seeded teams. Honestly, what's so bad about that? Isn't it a friggin step forward? It's not like Howard or Terry are significantly younger than Kobe or the draft picks will be all that great.
Probably, I posted a link to a page with all of their videos, and the top of the list are interviews by Kobe and P-Jax.
If a team's goal is not to lose in the first round to an 8th seeded team (which shouldn't happen at all, actually) then they have to rethink their priorities. The problem with trading for Kobe isn't the fear of not being competitive but whether or not your team will survive after the obligated gutting of the team to bring Kobe on board.
And if your goal is to have a team NOT susceptible to such failures, a move should be made. Gutting WHAT? Terry has pretty much fallen out of favor and Howard has yet to post a 20 ppg season. Kobe is better than the two of them put together. What is with this wussy era in sports trading? if the trade makes the Mavs better, they should do it.
I agree in most cases, however this suggestion of Terry/Howard/two #1's would still leave the Mavs as one of the best teams in the league. Kobe + Dirk on the same team? Barf.....
So this one-dimensional Jason Terry and underwhelming Josh Howard would be pieces that Buss would want? The packages speculated coming from Chicago is ten times better.
How the hell should I know what Buss wants?! All I'm saying is, if for some reason he wants to do the trade, the Mavs should go ahead and pull the trigger. Geez...
I hate Dallas more than anybody here, but posts like this just illustrates ignorance. Kobe is the closet thing to MJ, and yet you think Dallas would be worse? You do realize that the Mavs had the best record in the league last year? Dallas just ran into a team they matched up terribly with in the playoffs. In the regular season, they gave the Spurs and Suns all they could handle. Essentially they are replacing Howard with Kobe and Harris with Terry. Do you HONESTLY think that Howard/Terry combo is better than a Kobe/Harris combo? I am not a huge fan of Kobe, but ITS KOBE BRYANT PEOPLE.
this would be a good trade for dallas. almost anytime you get the clearcut best player it's worth the gamble. i think a lot of people soured on the mavericks after the big upset last season, but it's plausible to say that if they played any team besides the warriors they'd be nba champions. they didn't do a whole lot in the offseason but they obviously have a contending team as is. i threw up a little bit, writing that last paragraph. go rockets!
eh Gordon/thomas/duhon/Noah/maybe some picks is better than terry/howard/picks. chicago can offer more than dallas. go to east please kobe.
are you kidding me? kobe by himself took the suns to 7 games. and dirk, when he's not being a wuss, destroyed the suns too! you combine these two and they can't beat us, a bunch of guys who have NEVER gone past first round??
Maybe thsi is correct. Howard may have just found out. He went psycho on Brad Miller during their pre-season game
Reading this thread reminds me of how so many posters here felt when the T-Mac trade was brewing. Since when is "depth"(on a deep team in a 2 for 1 trade no less, worthless late 1st rounders notwithstaning) more important than getting arguably the best player in the NBA? If Dallas pulls this off, even if they have to add another rotation player in to sweeten the deal, they're automatically the best team in the NBA. It's that simple.
