If you have insurance, tell the GP that you have the symptoms ( ). He will most likely prescribe anti-biotics. The other option is to see a Ear/Nose/Throat doctor. He can find the obvious. That will cost mulah, but specialize in it. Does she have ringing in the ear?
how long has she had the problem? How old is she? Any medical problems (i.e. diabetes)? Any fevers, cough, shortness of breath? If shes a bartender then she can surely afford to go to the doctor (usually costs about $50, and she can put it on layway).
shes 23 no know medical problems and she did have a cold about a week ago... just sharp pains in the ear and jaw .. right infront of her right side of face...
No offense man, but are you honestly going to act on her situation based upon what a bunch of dorks on a basketball forum say - ones that aren't "diagnosing" in person? Like someone said, get even a minimum wage job to get insurance. If you run around without insurance, you're asking for a world of trouble.
I think this is TMJ inflammation, although it could possibly be an ear infection. Impossible to say without seeing the ear itself. If its TMJ she can press on the joint and if it hurts similar to the pain she is feeling, then thats what the problem is. If its an infection it will most likely go away by itself (although antibiotics would definately speed time to recovery). To treat TMJ I would use warm compressess and advil. Of course seeing a doctor would be the best solution.
sorry to hear what's going on, rush. i haven't the foggiest idea. as dod mentioned we are a bunch of internet dorks and something has to be done about the insurance issue. as everyone before mentioned, peroxide (sp?) isn't a bad thing for the ear. it may help with a minor infection or could flush something out if there's anything in there (creepy thought... but i've heard of bugs in ears before). someone else mentioned a wisdom tooth/dental issue. possible. it's just that the ear and jar are too close together, so the two being intertwined may be the case. make a way to see a doctor. the stalkers need her videotaping.
Does she chew gum? I have TMJ and my doctor told me to stop chewing gum and it really helped big time. I also got a mouthpiece to wear at night. I'd wake up in the mornings and my jaw would hurt like hell, the jaw muscle that gets inflamed is near the ear. Look into that. I too, also hate going to the doctor, they never usually know what is wrong and end up sending you to 5 different specialists and then that $50 mentioned above is over $500 before you know it.
Tap on her maxiallary sinus underneath her eye with your finger gently...see if the right one is sore compared to the left one...
