Sounds like the Rockets are giving Yao an excuse to not play this summer.

This injury may be a blessing in disguise, Yao will get an entire summer off.

I hope he makes a full recovery. The one thing you hate to see is Yao losing his hard won stamina. Once your wind goes it's tough to get it back especially for a big man.

You are welcome. That should clear all the Shanghai Sharks nonsense people have been talking about here. :)

However, I should have been more precise in my previous statement. Yao's obligation is to train with and play for the Chinese national team in major international competitions, which also include the meaningless events, IMO, at the continental levels, such as the Asian Games or the Asian Basketball Championship (like the one Yao played in last summer).

Yaos stamina will be ok, I am in agreement with DaDakota on this one. Yao's Stamina was pretty good after the toe surgery. He can still ride a bike and im sure as hell he will be determined to get back into shape for next season without overdoing it. Its not like he needs to improve his post moves considerably, He already has the best game in Basketball IMO. Yao will spend this summer on the Bike and in the Film Room. I doubt there will be much of a difference in what we see in Yao post all star break and the beginning of the season. With Yao its more about the mental aspect that the physical, hes already got some impressive tools to work with.

    Sigh.

Yao is paid and employed by the Houston Rockets. He is not going to do anything to that would seriously jeopardize his NBA career. If he can play for the CNT, great. He's not going to play with them on a broken foot.

I know this has nothing to do with it, but I think Shaq was just saying that the 13 missed FTs were a factor. Sorry to nitpick.

People are stupid, in spite of their acting smart. Some were ever joking Yao's acting it after the news broke that his foot was broken. Go figure.

    Not so sure.

What is sure though, is that he won't have time to do his conditional, endurence training like he did last summer (which helped him a lot BTW) this time. :(

Now someone needs to relay the message to T-Mac to take it easy this summer.

He's not going to play unless he's healthy. Yao knows enough not to play through injury or else it will just get worse.

when he had surgery on his toe practically everyone was worried he'd lose his stamina, lose his strength, and come back out of shape. well none of that happened and he came back a step quicker, stronger, and with a huge leap in his understanding of the game.

you never want to have surgery and yao ming in the same sentence but don't underestimate this kids heart. he wants to be the best and i think the rest will ultimately be beneficial. he may not be able to go full contact for another 5 months but there are loads of ways for him to workout and work on his game. he's proven it this year and he did that with an IV in his arm most of the time.

First off, I dont think even Yao knows how long it's going to heal, so the 4-6 month estimate might be sincere. I dont think CD is playing game to dodge Yao's commitment to CNT.

Second, this ought to put CD & company more in the crisis mode this offseason. They have to have rosters for plan B, C and D to win games.

Last, 4-6 month heal time is different from his last toe sugery which was only 2 month. so the impact certainly are different. Thinking this surgery is blessing in diguise is too optimistic. Just hoping it wont negative affect Yao too much.

as long as yao has access to a rowing machine maintaining or improving his stamina shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Well said. It's never a good idea to underestimate Yao Ming.
