i've seen him. i also know that JVG said he will start the players who give him the best chance of winning. i think his shooting and defense will give him a good chance. either him or MJ would start in that lineup.

JVG has never started a rook unless people were injured. Luther Head was lucky to have started and got the minutes he got last season. JVG's system is really really difficult, even vets have the hardest time. Carney to me, looks like Stro on the court, I guarantee he will look lost on alot of plays. Which results him not starting for... a long while.

When JVG said he will start the players who give him the best chance of winning, I bet you he murmured under his breath... "except rookies".

There's no way Carney drops to us at the #8 with that much upside and potential he's only going to move up in the draft come closer to draft day.

I don't understand all the Padgett hating.

he is what he is: a bench PF who can hit the 3. i thought he did great for us last year. He and Tmac had some good chemistry, similar to what he had with pat garrity.

Sure, he's not a starter or anything, but he can definately space the floor, and plays hard. I say bring him back.

    Bonzi would be okay if:

    A. We could afford him.

    B. He wasn't a chronic underacheiver that had one spectacular playoff series before free agency.

Considering the talent we have on this team, you'd take him for the MLE. But I would be pretty lukewarm about the signing in any case.

Cassell's ugly, too, but he helped the Rockets win two championships in his first two seasons in the NBA... :D

I've heard Bonzi Wells has issues getting along with others. I recall a story at Portland where he threw a ball at someone and hit them in the head in practice. I do not want an expensive head case, or a mid level head case either. JVG will go Bi-polar with a crazy player like that.

We can get a good player who will not upset chemistry. Draft Carney if he is there.

I think if Carney is there, they have to take him..but that is a big IF.....we have to do more than just draft Carney and sign padgett....We need a big guard who can defend...from what I remember Mike James wasn't a big guard who could defend...yes he can score but we need guys who can defend the perimeter and be able to shoot but not jack up shots everytime down the court...i dont' think Tracy really wants James back...you can't have 3 guys who command the ball...Tracy and Yao...I dont' think the checmistry would be there...

"can't get away from baseball...plays softball in pearland twice a week..."
    ____________

When you have a chronic back problem twisting to swing at a softball 2 times per week only 2 months removed from major injury is idiotic.

Ahhh yes, the old "JVG hates rookies" myth - I guess this year it has to be modified to "JVG hates rookies except for Luther Head"

McGrady, examine JVG's career - you'll find that the only time he's even HAD a rookie on his roster - the most prominent name (and highest pick) you'd find is.....Frederic Weis.

You might remember him with Vince Carter's balls in his hair.

So, since he didn't start Frederic Weis and a few other lesser names, he HATES rookies?

Bullsh-t. He'll play anybody who plays hard and plays smart, no matter what year they are.

And ps, don't give me this "well it's cause JVG hates rookies that he trades away all his first round picks" either. Most of the times in his career where the Rox/Knicks didn't have a first round pick it's because the GM, PRIOR to JVG becoming coach, had traded it away.

No one hated him. He was over rated. He got lucky for a few games with his 3s and that was it.

It is about time that JVG woke up and smelt the roses!! JVG has had the tendency to bring us Cheap,Old, Unathletic , Over the Hill players, mostly with a New York odor. The day of surrounding two superstars with scrubs and winning Championships is over. Les should get an enforcer to assist JVG with his thinking about playing our younger players!

Would agree its not the smartest to do. And he's playing shortstop, the most demanding position on the infield. That's almost like Yao Ming couple months after foot surgery playing defensive back and receiver twice a week in touch football.

I like Rodney Carney's physical talents. Would have to take a chance on him at that draft slot cuz no one past him would have as much "upside" to his game. Questions of his focus are fair, but this would be the one shot to get a decent player-to-star type. Even if he doesnt start he could contribute right away with his lenght and athleticism.

Would like Mike James back and he'd be a decent pickup if they don't bring back Wesley and Sura can't come back. Otherwise I don't see him being an answer with his lack of height (Rafer and MJ starting?) and more expensive price. Still gonna need something at power forward. NO on Bonzi.

But it's not like he was suppose to be great. Padgett provides 3-pt shooting and energy off the bench, I don't see how that can be overrated.

I don't think anyone is talking about signing Padgett for the MLE to start, but a decent contract for him to come off the bench when we need shooting is something we can use.
