You gave a great synopsis then somehow totally bombed on that last point.

    Barkley said the exact opposite.

He said that Steve is one of those types of players that is EXTREMELY talented but never figured out how to play the game the right way. He was talking about how Steve never voluntarily chose to try the thing the coach's way and become a true PG. He even compared Steve to Marbury and JR Rider. Barkley never said that Steve lacked talent.

steve was ripped back then, but yeah if steve had a more controlling coach his game could have been better than it was b4

After Stevie he didn't talk to Adelman about the situation. Thompson said he wanted to knock Stevie in the head. His response was almost to say "Stevie why do you gotta be so stubborn, Go talk to the coach and ask him what he wants. Stevie's response was something I'm just going to do it on the court and let the coach run the show. I think that is a bit arrogant attitude, and maybe part of what's behind his lack of playing time. Stevie has had problems with every coach he has played for, even Rudy. It's like he has an authoritarian issue. But in the end it's the coach who distributes the minutes and if not getting those minutes is one of the worst things that happens in your life doesn't it make sense to talk to the guy who distributes them and see what you can do to get more. Common sense sometmes eludes Stevie. Still you gotta love his heart. Good interview.

I think Steve was right on with his approach in this case.

Even if he were to talk to the coach, how he plays in practice and games will ultimately determine his role.

    I know and I agree completely. :)

I was just saying that because a certain poster around here likes to point out (usually in large bold letters) that Adelman allegedly knows more than all the posters who have been saying the exact same thing Thompson did since the beginning of the season.

Yeah okay but he implied that Stevie's finished. he said he felt sorry for him as if Steve is past his time and he won't change. He didn't say anything to make you think there was still hope for Stevie. If he thought there was he certainly indicate it and that's what I was disagreeing with. It seems to me Stevie is trying to do what he is asked. He wants to be team player. I don't think Barkley is aware of that at all. Now whether Stevie can accomplish that is still to be determined.

Can you blame him? He comes back and the first thing out of everyone's mouth is "he better recognize that he's not the franchise anymore" instead of "welcome home."

Barkley is an idiot. Steve sacrificed more money and guaranteed playing time to come to Houston and has accepted a lesser role for a greater chance at winning. So Charles saying something to the effect that he hasn't learned to play is factually incorrect. Everytime he has gotten a chance to play this season he has played well and, more importantly, so has the team

Steve Francis is pure class and has handled himself great throughout all this.
Especially considering Rafer Alston, one of the worst (if not the worst) starting pg in the NBA, is playing in front of him.

To all those people who critcized him for being out of shape, what do you think now? He was with his family after the birth of their child. I'm sure the Francis haters are going to wanna see a birth certificate or something, especially since the whole "he's not wearing a jersey underneath his warmups" criticism was proved false. Some people will look for any reason or excuse to try and take down a man who has more heart, fire, determination, and energy than practically the entire roster. I guess haters are gonna hate, but the crowd in the Toyota Center wasn't chanting Rafer's name.

The sooner Steve starts the better off the Rockets will be.

    I hear you.

I actually grew up in the Georgetown area and was a Hoyas fan since before Ewing. There is no doubt that Thompson has infinite more coaching experience and wisdom than Adelman, even if only at the collegiate level.

I will be surprised if his comments in that interview don't resonate for a while and even force Adelman's hand a bit.

It's not a big issue if he puts it on the floor certainly Adelman will see it and reward him for it. But it certainly couldn't hurt to have a sit down with the coach and be clear on exactly what he wants from you. Again not a biggie but just kind of a style of Stevie's that doesn't always endear him to coaches. All things being equal I am going to give the minutes to the guy who knows what I want and wants to do it. Of course IMO all things aren't equal.

    preach on brother kwame!!!!

ever since the rockets started losing, i watch the game if steve is in it. Something about his emotion, hustle, and determination during the game is exciting to watch than sleepy eye tmac and yao screech after a dunk. Remember this is the guy who stood up for yao after after amare foul him hard.

As much as I like Steve, you are insane to say that he is pure class.

    Steve Nash is class.

    Yao Ming is pure class.

Francis was notoriously arrogant early in his career and butted heads with most every coach he has had at some point or another.

He skipped a team flight to stay and party in Houston during Super Bowl weekend a few years ago. That is a fact.

Again, I am a Francis fan, but he is relatively immature. He is (or hopefully was) closer to the Artest end of the spectrum than the Yao end.

Having said that, he is clearly our best PG and should ultimately see most of the minutes at that position. He has definitely matured to a noticeable extent both on and off the court. Adelman will recognize these facts more and more as the season progresses.

You act like you know Adelman and Steve.

How do you know that Adelman would appreciate if Steve pulled him aside to discuss his role and playing time.

Maybe Steve's attitude is exactly the same as Adelman's. I don't know for sure and I don't think you do either.

The bottom line is that actions speak louder than words. What Steve says to the coach in a private meeting is far less important than what Steve does in workouts, practice and games. The latter is what will make the real difference and Steve is not foolish for choosing this path.
