hahahahaha that stevie cross on kenny smith was hilarious..and stevie looked ripped in that video clip
How unfortunate that everyone continues to go back to the "he never learned to play properly and needs to humble himself" card after he has put his ego aside and done everything he can to fit into the system here. Anyway, props to TNT for giving this national airtime. FIRE ADDLE-BRAIN!
That was a great piece. Thanks for the heads up. I hope Steve gets it going and proves all the doubters wrong.
I was a bit shocked when Thompson said "... he (Coach A) isn't even playing you!" I can't remember the exact context but Thompson was basically saying that you can't prove yourself (to Steve) because your coach isn't even playing you. Those were strong words from a reputable coach.
Francis said DNP for the 1st 10 games, those are some letters he never heard or seen before... Most of the interview was about that. Later Charles and Kenny talked about him. Kenny said the game has a way of humbling you. And it's how you react to that humbling experience that determines what kind of player you can still be in the League. Charles said he felt sorry for Steve because he is a good kid but he was just one of those players that was so talented but wanted to do it his way. I would say Charles is not right now. It seems Steve is trying to do what he is asked. But maybe this interview will be catalyst for more improvement. He did say other than his mother dying that was the second hardest thing he has had to deal with and he would put the DNP stats on his shelf to remind of the bad times. Let's hope this inspires Steve to give his best. He is still talented even if Barkley doesn't think so.
I rather skip the Thursday Night game, and just watch the pre, half, and post game show sometimes. What ties the show together and makes it stick is EJ. So that's Stevie's house...? I wish more youngsters would learn to play instead of getting by on talent. It will eventually catch up to you when your talent erodes.
From what I can remember: Steve said that- -he didn't work out the week before training camp because he had a child born seven days before and wanted to spend the time with his family. -he was maybe behind in the first few practices, but after the first couple of days he's been in the same shape he's always been in (nothing new here) -the DNP CD's were the first of his life and, short of his mother dying, were the hardest things for him to handle in his basketball career. He wants to take a copy of all the DNP box scores and frame them as motivation. -he's still got the arrogance that marked him from before--"ain't no one can stop me"--but now his job is different than scoring. He has to get steals and help the big two to make their work easier. -he hasn't talked to Adelman at all about his playing time, only game plan strategies, and his perspective is that he will work his butt off in the time he's given to prove that he deserves to be out there. He didn't seem to show any malice in saying it. -his clutch performance in the Phoenix game was nothing special, just his normal ability coming through which he believes was good because it showed that the coach is starting to have more confidence in him by leaving him out there in crunch time. Feel free to add/correct anything I paraphrased here.
That interview really hit home to me. I just feel bad for the guy. Granted he may not be the player he once was, he sure as heck has alot more heart than the majority of the players on the team. I don't think we'd see Stevie smiling at the end of the game if we lost, unlike some of the other players on the team. Again, wonderful interview, and it was nice for TNT to give him some airtime... and I do believe Thompson was sending indirect messages to RA.
