Is Vandermeer trying to get JVG to talk about Texans? Having to talk NBA for an hour must be killing him.

    NBA Quiz

    1. Who is the first ever NBA lottery pick? Ewing (JVG got it right)
    2. First ever unrestricted free agent? Chambers (JVG got it right)
    3. Which year did Wilkens win COY? '94 (JVG got it right)
    4. Who in his rookie year played the most positons in the Finals? Magic (JVG got right)
    5. Which rule was adopted in the NBA in 1979? 3pt Line (JVG got it right)

Caller didn't win the tickets since JVG got more questions right but JVG asked to give him the caller's name and he would leave 2 tickets for him

    Question from Caller:
Yao gets alot of ticky-tac fouls, is that because of his lack of respect in the league?

    JVG:
Everyone wants Yao to be a tenacious, aggressive dominating center but that is determined by his personality. We need Yao to be alert and because of the downsizing of the NBA Yao is at a disadvantage because of quickness, he needs to be alert and aware and has improved. Yao has to be the most POORLY officiated player in the NBA and JVG has complained to the League. Yao takes a number of these fouls and upon further review are not actually fouls. JVG believes that the refs give a better advantage to guys of lesser size

Heres what I got so far.

On teams recent play: Well we have at times show improvement.. things that been most difficult is to sustain.. have opportunity to sustain that against one of best teams in the league, that’s what we hope to do.

Since we last spoke..you've worked in jon barry and wesley in your rotation talk about that:

JVG: I think john barrry... he’s not a true 1... he’s a combination guard like Sura and Wesley.. he’s a good passer... biggest thing I like about him is he’s got a passion, a toughness about him that’s very difficult to measure unless you are around him every day..

David Wesley has a similar toughness and passion and he has to shoot well…

On the play of Bob Sura: Well I think the first part the hardest part is he missed all training camp now hes battling a knee which is troublesome and a real concern but I think he’s balancing the need to get others involved with his two guard mentality. the other thing is its much more difficult to defend point guards than two guards coming off screens…

Talking Yao‘s condition for tomorrow night and his impact coming off the flu: Yao wont be limited by the flu tomorrow night but their speed up and down the court to guard Stouadamire up and down the court.. will their speed and quickness have an impact… it’ll be an interesting contrast between a smaller quicker center vs. a more powerful less mobile center.

Question and answer part JVG vs. Tim. JVG gets all 5 questions right but requests that he’ll give Tim two tickets himself, done deal.

Callers question: I know Yao has been getting a lot ticky tack fouls is that because of lack of respect or...(lost him)

JVG: Thank you for the kind comments. I really have enjoyed living here the kindness of the people has been astounding...

Yao personality is never going to be the rough and tumble kind of guy but we don’t need that what we need is the alert and aware yao ming with high energy…he has too work doubly as hard to make sure he can get back in transition and defend pick and rolls and I think he has really really improved in that but I think yao ming is without a doubt the most poorly officiated player in the nba.. have made complaints to the nba office numerous times….

JVG:Key for tomorrows night game… cant reduce it to one but from a defensive standpoint we have to get back and get set then we’re going to have to guard pick and rolls and stoudamire off the dribble ..a tall order for our team but one I think we can accomplish.

There was a lot more and the questions and his answers were more detailed than that but that's all I got.

Thanks for helping all the out-of-towners out.

    :)

Kind of funny they'd put Gundy up against a caller. That guy is a stat/fact genius. Class gesture on his part, though.

NO, I don't believe it - JVG is the worse than dirt - he is a horrible, soulless person. He slows the team down and keeps fans from getting Big Mac... and I even heard he kicks kittens when he's feeling blue !

Eveyone in the BBS needs to here that interview.

For all the complaining I 've done about JVG I have to admit the guy definately knows his stuff.

He had our situation down and he really showed he knows what he's doing.

We arenot a quick team and the league and the rules have favored teams that are quick and can score from the perimeter.

He really had a good assessment of Yao.

Yao has to defend much quicker players night in and night out and has to work twice as hard to get back in transition and defend drives to the basket. He said Yao's biggest problem was turnovers. Getting stripped and charging. He said they work with Yao to keep the ball at chin level so he can't be stripped as often.

Everything he said made good sense. Plus it was a cool gesture to give the call in fan two tickets because the caller lost the contest.

    Impressed.

I think one thing that wasnt said here yet was that JVG and staff are very worried about Bobs knee and that Bob is trying to play with it still the way it is..... I hope I'm not reading into too much, but that isnt good if it could be something that could keep him off the team for long time...

JVG also gained more respect from me for giving that guy tix to the game... also he wanted him to win them if they got a tie... good job JVG!!
