Did anyone get the impression this was a serious problem? I can't belive Yao would have played so effectively in the Worlds had his toe been a big issue.

ABC13 is about to have its sports segment, said they will "introduce" us to V-Span.

It may just be precautionary measures. After all, Wells, and Hayes isn't practicing either.

I believe they are just sitting Yao until Monday for precaution. Some of you people are reading too deep into this. They are being cautious. If he plans to come back Monday that's not bad at all. :) :)

I think a guy that big is always going to have problems with his feet...

The Rox will take care of it and have him ready to go by tipoff. ;)

Didn't JVG say he played 3/4 of today's practice?

I find this part funny, because the "reports" are directly from t-macs mouth.

I think what TMac meant was that he is lighter now than he was in the offseason (when he went up to 240 lbs) but he weighs the same as his normal playing weight of 225-230.

Pretty much what we figured, safe 13 are......
Rafer Alston PG 6-2 175 Jul. 24, 1976 Fresno State
    Shane Battier SF 6-8 220 Sep. 9, 1978 Duke
    Chuck Hayes F 6-6 238 Jun. 11, 1983 Kentucky
    Luther Head G 6-3 185 Nov. 26, 1982 Illinois
    Juwan Howard F 6-9 253 Feb. 7, 1973 Michigan
John Lucas PG 5-11 165 Nov. 21, 1982 Oklahoma State
    Tracy McGrady GF 6-8 223 May 24, 1979
    Yao Ming C 7-6 310 Sep. 12, 1980
    Dikembe Mutombo C 7-2 261 Jun. 25, 1966 Georgetown
    Steve Novak F 6-10 220 Jun. 13, 1984 Marquette
    Kirk Snyder SG 6-6 225 Jun. 5, 1983 Nevada
Vassilis Spanoulis PG 6-4 188 null
Bonzi Wells SG 6-5 210 Sep. 28, 1976 Ball State

    2 spots for.....

    Kelenna Azubuike G 6-5 220 Dec. 16, 1983 Kentucky
    Ryan Bowen SF 6-9 220 Nov. 20, 1975 Iowa
    Casey Jacobsen GF 6-6 215 Mar. 19, 1981 Stanford
    Scott Padgett PF 6-9 240 Apr. 19, 1976 Kentucky
    Bob Sura G 6-5 200 Mar. 25, 1973 Florida State
    Haryasz, Matt SF 6' 11" 219 Stanford 03-20-1984

Since Casey J. is more versitel, Scott will have to outshoot him I think to make the squad. KA would have to shoot as well as both of them, tall order. I think CJ gets one spot.

Haryasz chances went from nil to darkhorse with the health of Cs in question.

I think you're seriously underestimating the value added that Padgett brings to JVG by simple knowledge of the system, especiall given all his concern about there being too much turnover (which I believe he noted the other day in an interview)- that's how guys like Charlie Ward, Charles Oakley and Clarence WItherspoon got new leases on life here. I think Padgett has the inside track on Jacobsen.

Sure, Jacobsen is arguably more versatile, but right now we've got a surplus of SG's and Jacobsen's ability to play SG (in addition to: Wells, McGrady, Snyder, Head, Spanoulis) really doesn't tack on that much more depth. Padgett's ability to play PF (albeit out of position) IMO adds more than Jacobsen at SG due to the weakness at that spot.

Whether they are being cautious or not, Yao's toe is a big concern. You can bet his toes will be stepped on again and again once the season starts and we cannot afford of sitting him a couple of games every time that happens. And if he keeps playing with an injured toe he won't be as effective or even worse he may end up missing a few weeks at some point.

Pull it out if that fix the problem once for all! Though I don't know how weird it feels without toenails and whether they will grow back. Does anyone know?

I had my right toenail removed when I was kid (a chalkboard fell on it). It grows back, eventually. For me, the nail is much thicker than it was before. Maybe that would be a good thing for Yao, don't know.

It is pretty much a lock that Padget will make the team (He's been involved in that flash advertisement of Rockets.com). And Matt will probably become our 3rd string center.
