Its a good thing someone bumped this. I forgot to mention I'm really big on my mids and highs, im tired of them being muddy on practically every headphone. How are the m-50s when it comes to that?
Very flat - without the low end roll off normally associated with phones in that class. And without the hype in the low end and high end that is typically of consumer phones. Just nice extended response. They will do justice to quality material without becoming fatiguing and they are sturdy. There isn't a headphone out there in that price range that can touch them, in my opinion.
I still recommend the mix master mike skullcandy over the beats any day of the week. I love mine. http://www.zappos.com/skullcandy-mix-master-2012-matte-black-matte-black
It's like two different conversations going on..........reminds me of this: http://www.head-fi.org/t/620659/mix...s-beats-studio-vs-beats-solo-hd-vs-beats-mixr
Studio headphones can be awesome if you're used to consumer headphones, but many people specifically dislike them because they don't overhype the bass - if you've only ever seen silicon enhanced boobs, when you see an amazing natural set, you'll complain that they look floppy - but thats how boobs are supposed to look! My personal favorite is the AKG K240. When you hear the detail in the upper mids you'll wonder how you lived without it. AKG makes a pair that go for upwards of $800 that are suposed to be like having your eardrums tickled by God, but I've never used them.
You bring up a good point in respect to any speaker or set of headphones - if they sound "good" then typically they are not accurate and have some emphasis or deficiency somewhere. That is why mastering engineers use specific speakers that are designed to be audio microscopes. They are not speakers that sound good or pleasant. Phones such as the AKG or ATH-M50 will typically sound different than consumer phones which are designed not to be accurate, but to sound hyped. I prefer a balance between musicality and accuracy.
Anyone here re-shell their IEMs? I have narrowed it down to three companies after checking out Head-Fi: 1964 Ears, Unique Melody and InEarz. What I would love is a recommendation of an audiologist in the Houston area to get my impressions done.
