Yeah, stop at Texas Burger in Huntsville and get a piping hot cheeseburger with an ice cream cone chaser!

And I second the Woody’s suggesting as well. You can’t drive through Centerville without stopping at Woody’s. I can go in there and spend $20 on just all the jerky and other crap they have in there.

Mt. Zion bbq in Huntsville. Just a mile or so off of I-45, east on FM-1374.

Definitely Woody's Smokehouse is a must stop. I love their smoked chicken and homemade sausage. Their brisket is ok, its better in a chopped sandwich. Believe me, I know this drive, i did a long distance relationship for 1.5 years from houston to dallas and pretty much drove every other weekend. Bucees is a cool place to stop by, if not for the food, for the sheer size of it and the spotless bathrooms.

Buc-cees was the first thing that came to mind, but it's been covered.

I'll add Sam's restaurant in Fairfield. It's a buffet with lots of southern food, like brisket, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, etc. and has a family owned feel to it.

yep, yep, yep. Great place. Old Baptist Church supported by the BBQ they sell from the old frame house next door. You have to walk through a wall of smoke from the BBQ smoker to get inside. The place is tiny and the old lady that helps you, just might break out with a hymn in the middle of your meal & expect the entire room to join in. Its pure Greatness for the experience and food. Some of the best BBQ in Texas. they've been profiled in Southern Living and got honorable mention in Texas Monthly's top BBQ places in Texas. Its an all black church, most of the patrons are white, and nobody, and I mean nobody cares..

I remember a creepy church or something with multiple huge signs that said random things. The handwriting looked like the haunted woods in the Wizard of Oz. ID TURN BACK IF I WERE YOU. SINNERS!

Just from sheer volume of recommendations, I'll be trying Woody's on this first journey. Should I go with the chopped beef sandwich? I'm typically a sausage guy. (Shut up, Swoly.)

All are good- chopped, sliced or sausage. You can get a plate and sit at one of their benches where they have bags of white bread sitting out for the customers. That way you may be able to get two meals out of it.

I STRONGLY endorse this place. Fatty, this place has much better BBQ than Woody's. Amazing potato salad and cobbler as well. Chopped beef sandwich is probably one of the best in Texas, IMHO

Went there last month on the way to Houston and walked out with a coronary.

They really grease it up for you there.

There's 2 places... Something Different Cafe and the joint next door to it (can't remember the name).

Something Different Cafe has awesome pies and the sandwiches aren't bad at all.

They've always prided themselves on how sloppy their burgers are. I think their burgers have the most calories from fat of any fast food chain. Right up Fatty's alley.

I used to eat at the one back in my hometown in California frequently. The Carl's Jr's out in California are actually decent and at most of them you can get mexican food too. I read somewhere Carl's is expanding in to Texas again, they tried once but failed. I think I saw one in Bastrop or somewhere just before you hit Austin up on 71.

They taste like **** out in the Midwest where they are called "Hardees". Just awful food.

quoted for truth...very good place...Bucee's, eh, it's over rated, but if you have to take a dump, this is the place to go...

There is a place in Fairfield, i think it's ponte's diner, but I'm not sure...It's on the east side of 45...its very greasy and very good...I make that drive all the time and it sucks...only highlights are food stops...Been meaning to stop at mt. zion bbq...will do it next time..
