Canoner you seriously need to stop complaining. You probably missed the point of my post so I'll just say the important part: Head is young and young players develop. Do you think Artest was the player he is today in his first year? Or Derek Fisher? Or Yao Ming? You want to talk about dumb fouls and hesitant to shoot and that's Yao up to this season. Even legends like Shaq and Hakeem expanded and improved their games from their rookie year. Head just has to show that he's got a base to improve on and he's done that. He's no bust so get off his balls.
Canoner2002, of course people are trying to make Luther Head look good because they don't want to ridicule him. I doubt that everyone that defends Head denies he has weaknesses that could be improved on, but he's a freakin' rookie, cut him some slack. Who was drafted higher than him and is better than him? Who was he drafted after that he was better than? I'm sure it's not as easy as you make it seem to throw a pass to Yao in the post during a high-intensity NBA game where pressure probably has more to do with anything than the ability or desire to pass to Yao. For the record, what computerman said was right. The per 48 minute stats are for the rate of which things occurr, whether it be TO's, steals, rebounds, whatever. Obviously the more you play, the more you turn it over. At least he isn't turning it over at a high rate. Sure, Head could use a lot of work this offseason on his game, but name one rookie that doesn't need to be in the gym all offseason.
You didn't read what I said did you? What I complained was tb-cain used fg assist and steal numbers WITHOUT adjusting for per 48 minutes. He used 48-min stats in some cases but raw stats in other cases, and he chose which one to use in favor of the his argument. He himself admitted it. Seriously you guys need to read what other people write more carefully.
He's not going to give up, guys. He has an IQ of 200, and our beloved rookie, Luther Head, is scoring negative. It's a lost cause. We're just going to have to accept that Luther is a stupid, pea-brained, ballhogging turnover machine who hates Yao and will never pass to him.
I might have gone too far to call him low IQ. He is certainly smarter than Swift but as I said I expected him to be smarter. I started the thread after a game we committed like 10 turnovers in the 4th quarter half by Head. I started the thread when they were not excuting plays the only way that gave us a slim chance against team like mavs. I was emotional but I also pointed out problems. It is not like I shouted "cut him or get rid of the whole team or they are all ****" without anything else. So you guys chose to jump on my being emotional, instead of paying more attention to the contents. It is not like many of you haven't cursed a lot, even worse than I did, in various threads. And for regular posters, you know I gave my prop to Head and any rox player who deserved it, here and on realgm board. How can anyone label me a yof or a hater????????????
Don't take it personal. How can anyone attack you personally... It's not your fault you have a low basketball IQ and can't see that Head is only one of 3 players on the team that is worth keeping.
Yeah great. I called the best way to beat Rox and Avery played just like that. Have you post ANYTHING that proved to be original and correct? You are on my ignore list now, so is xcomputerman.
That's a low blow man. I almost feel bad for laughing so hard at this post. But lay off the guy -- at least he finally admitted his mistake.
Everyone is entitled to an emotional outburst after a frustrating loss. I'm with ya there. Not to keep this going, but I do remember the commentators mentioning that JVG said, of ALL his players, Head was the only one that you couldn't tell whether he was hitting or missing. Other players would be down and dejected, but Head would continue to play as if every shot was going in. Maybe that's something he learned in those four years of college. I can remember the commentators saying "so-and-so" was hesitant to take shots referring to just about every player we've had - Horry, TMac, etc. Veterans players at that. I wouldn't expect a rookie to be above the same. Hell, we traded Horry (the first time) because he wouldn't take shots. Anyway, I'm convinced we did well in the draft to get Head. He's exceeded my expectations, but I've also been frustrated with his play at times. I've also been frustrated with Howard, Tmac, Yao, Wesley, etc. You know the list. One of those years. Now, if you want to criticize someone's play this year, how about Sura? Loser.
The simplest way to prove your point would be to answer a question posed previously. How many rookies drafted beneath Head have been better than him this year? Arguably only one. Ryan Gomes. Luther was drafted at 24th. As was stated earlier, he was never expected to play so many minutes. He was supposed to get his feet wet. Instead, he ended up being thrown into the fire. I'd say in those circumstances, he's done a great job. Consider he is just developing his point game after playing out of position for most of his college career. Consider he has amazing composure and the ability to hit some pretty incredible shots. In the beginning of the year, he was shooting at a really amazing clip from beyond the arc. A jump from around 40 games to 82 games is hard for any person. One last question. What were your expectations for a 24th pick in last years draft?
I've said it that Head is better than what I expected for a 24th pick. I've said several times now that I am not judging him by where he was drafted anymore. I am judging him by our midseason expectation. We might have held our expectation too high back then, just as knicks fan on Fryer.
Frye is pretty good, actually. Larry Brown, however, doesn't play him very often. Plus now he's injured so I guess they can't really expect much from production from him. By midseason, I think most of us saw that he had hit the wall. I don't quite know what you expected from him however...
i was referring to when artest trades were debated. most people would rather give up a potentially high lottery pick than head and some people simply wouldn't even consider including head in trades for artest. Same deal goes with Knicks. I think they were foolish not to do a artest-frye + filler trade.
I think two of the main reasons why some didn't want to include Head in a trade situation for Artest is because 1) Head has shown a lot of promise during the season and 2) Artest is a headcase (as talented as he is - though Artest for a year when Tmac and Yao are both healthy would be a scary trio, as has been stated many times) That said, you still haven't answered what YOU expected out of Head after the midseason.
If you care to read what I wrote in this thread, then you would know what I expected out of him. I was one of those who valued Head higher than a lottery pick. I expected him to be solid starting 2 for us for years to come. It is one or two pages back. So please read before you becomes overly aggressive and accuss me of avoiding your questions.
Ummm...if you take what I wrote as "overly aggressive," I think you are being overly sensitive. When I emphasized you, I did it so because I wanted to know what you expected, not what we supposedly expected. I did read what you expected, but read carefully what you responded with. "I expected him to be solid starting 2 for us for years to come." You expected a rookie to be a starting 2 now? I believe most people would agree you were being overly optimistic. If you are saying you hope he will be the starting 2 of the future for the Rockets, don't you think you should wait until he has been in the league for at least a full year before you start making judgments? P.S. Calm down. Not every statement is to be taken personally. A bbs post does not do well to convey tone.
