It ended up being a 40-7 blowout. Maybe they weren't playing awesome defense in the 4th quarter of a blowout like that
So VY couldn't win. If he had played poorly, you would say he sucked even against the Chargers 2nd defensive unit. Now he has played decently and even thrown the only TD of his team then you say it was only because of the Chargers' 2nd string D.
rocketforever.. I think that it is reasonable to point out things such as when the TD happened, etc. That plays a role in judging how well someone did... I didn't watch the game, that's why I asked if it was the 2nd team or what exactly...
He was 3 yards from another when the clock inexplicably ran out. There should have been time for at least one more play (although it's possible they may not have ran a play anyway).
halfbreed... Thanks for the info. Also have to take into account the talent around him. Just like I said all along with Jay Cutler... you can be a GREAT player and still lose if the rest of the team isn't great. Just so hard to tell by stats if you can't see how many passes were dropped, etc... Vince probably won't be the best qb ever.. and he probably won't be a toal bust... probably somewhere in the middle. You can be a starter in this league without being a star quarterback.. and have a productive career. It'll be a number of years before we know...
Lets see a rookie QB has a bad game and we can tell how his whole career is going to be from this? Obviously John Elway's career sucked and it was the biggest mistake of the Broncos to draft him since he had a few bad games as a rookie. Seriously though VY having a bad game isn't a surprise for me. I think he will end up being a great player but I figured he would have an adjustment period. He was getting by with sheer athleticism in college but Pro-D's are so much smarter, quicker and larger than even the best college teams that Vince can't just rely on athleticism to dominate. I still think using him like the way Pittsburgh did with Cordell Stewart, playing him at RB, slot reciever or even in two QB sets would be a good way to groom VY. They could still take advantage of his great athleticism while giving him a chance to learn the game without being the central focus.
So Vince Young is a very raw talent. Who didn't know that before the NFL draft is completely and utterly stupid. He'll take some time to get adjusted just like all ROOKIE QBs do. As to whether he'll be successful as a QB, he still has a whole career ahead of him to prove (or disprove) that. As for Reggie Bush, I am pretty sure if Deuce McAllister wasn't on the Saints, Bush would be getting all of the carries. So what do you do when you got McAllister at RB and a Reggie Bush on your team? You put both in and you have Bush at the slot position. Why? Because defenses would have to pick and choose what to do in terms of containing BOTH McAllister and Bush. As for the Texans...*shakes head*, Reggie Bush couldn't have done a lot better than our platooned-RBs did today IMO.
He may end up a star.. I'm just saying he can be a solid player without being a "superstar". The problem is the fact that so many people hyped him up and are expecting him to be a superstar... so anything less will make him a bust in the eyes of many, even if he has a good career.
Let's not forget the fact that he didn't have a bad game, and was only accused of having a bad game after a couple of series.
Yes you're right he had a so-so game but even if he got sacked 10 times and threw 7 interceptions I still wouldn't say that VY is a bust and it was huge mistake to draft him. The norm is for rookie QB's to be inconsistent or bad. The NFL game is too complicated and advanced to expect a rookie at any position to come in and consistently play well.
I feel like bookmarking this thread so three years from now when Vince is carrying Tenn on his back into the playoffs I can remind the turd burgler who started this thread how much of an idiot he. How many people do you know who excel at thier jobs there second week into it? Well.. actually your mom is pretty good at...
i guess people forgot how Donavan McNabb and Peyton Manning were their rookie years. this is just a case of :
