    damn it is amazing the way a high level of confidence (which is needed to suceed in elite sport) get misconstrued as arrogance and cockiness by so many people

    Right, but getting Yao Ming was based solely on the Rockets' play during Griffin's rookie year.

    The signing of Ming had everything to do with money. Not what the Rockets were doing during Griffin's first year.

    Cockiness: The other guy isn't very talented. <- even if true, this isn't cool to say.

    i agree Having a high confidance is thinking you can do things very good.
    Cockiness: thinking others aren't good and saying it in public.
    Although i do not know the context,so i do not know why he said it. and therefor i cannot call him Cocky just yet.
