anyone have info on the panasonic th-42px500u, and not the 50u? i've been scrounging around but can't seem to find any release or specs info. all i know is that it has some features that are sorely missing on the 50u, but i'm unsure of whether or not the added features would warrarnt the price difference.
Have you checked avsforum.com? I'm not sure what you're looking for specifically, but there was a thread there specifically about the differences between the 50 and the 500 not too long ago.
MY understanding is that you don't buy Plasma due to the picture possibly burning an image on the screen, etc...I bought an LCD for my bedroom and it rocks... As far as HD, I bought an HD-Ready and it is worth it if you get satelite, cable, etc...To get better picture/audio quality, make sure it has a DVI or HDMI input/output...
yeah i just registered to that site, posting under the same handle. i didnt catch the thread you mentioned though, but i did post a similar question on the new panny's thread. just thought i'd throw it out to a diff crowd in case someone on the bbs had some inside info.
Trust me, man, I doubt anybody on this forum has more knowledge than on avsforum about these things, but I understand what you're saying. Go to the plasma/LCD forum and so a search for th-42px500u. That's what I did. Let me know if you can't find it - I'll search for the thread when I get home or something.
Quick question: If I buy a TV with an HD Tuner in it already, then will I be able to see HD Programming via Regular Cable (not digital), or do I have to pay the cable company an additional fee?
YES, you have to be on digital cable and I think that you also may have to pay more for a Time Warner Cable HD converter. There is NO HD programming on regular (not digital) cable... HD is High Definition because it's digital and the sound comes in 5.1 surround sound where available. Just buy a regular AMPLIFIED antenna (RCA has some great ones) and hook it up to your HDTV, and you don't need cable. You can get over-the-air HDTV just like I am watching the ABC telecast of the finals in HDTV right now. Again, http://www.checkhd.com is a good start.
