What do people think of Dell tv's? Whenever I see their kiosks at the mall their picture quality always impresses me...maybe it's just the channel they were tuned to (HDNet), but it looked better than what I've seen on a Sony/Samsung.

    mooch,
you need to see TVs at home theater store. thats the only place that actually has their TVs setup correctly. if u go to best buy, they will have their TVs on factory default showing the same scene from 1 box for 100 tvs. the quality would be horrible. or they dont even HD channels on so you think that the tv was crap.

for the dell kiosk they have a direct HD feed from a PC connected via VGA, of course thats going to look alot better.

if u have friends that have HDTVs you should check out theirs or go to home theater store.

sharp 50" plasma with ambilight surround in the living room over the fp.

sony bravia 32" LCD in the bedroom

four year old - sony 57" HD rear projection in the game room. (it was the king, and now it's the red-headed step child. I have to offer free popcorn for anyone that will go watch it.

looking for a projector for the back patio that can survive the friendswood humidity and heat.

da dakota --- have you had any problems with your outdoor projector? do you leave it mounted outside or bring it in except when in use? Did you buy the screen to capture the image? is it texas-weather-friendly too?

    thanks.

    Pariah,

I put the projector up and take it down when not in use.

I got this portable screen for under $60 and I hung it up and it stays out there year round.

Also, I put surround sound speakers and stereo out there, and it also stays out there year round. Only the projector itself comes inside when finished.

It's a good point; A friend of mine has a 32" Samsung widescreen and it just looks horrible (no HD input). I've probably only seen true HD a handful of times, but I can't figure out why anyone in the world would buy a high-resolution, HD set without HD service.

Still, you'd think there would some type of (better) optimizers built in for non-HD feeds.

Actually now that I think about it, HD screens with non-HD input do improve "quality" as long as the screen is tiny; I've seen a 15" HD Maganavox that looks exceptional, even though it isn't HD input.

Not much of a gamer anymore but occaisionally still play my old XBOX on it and it looks great on the TV. I could only imagine how much better it is with the new XBOX 360. This Sony has HDMI input but from the research I've done, it isn't that much of an upgrade over my component cable I'm using. I have HDMI on my computer and used it to compare with my composites and couldn't see any difference nor justify spending wasted dollars on another HDMI cable. All in all, I'm extremely satisfied with this TV and highly recommend it.
