Uhhh-huh... when did I say that? I said I was happier myself with my PS3 purchase because Blu-Ray won, so now I have the right future format and won't have to pay hundreds of dollars more to play hi-def movies. That would not have been the case had I bought a 360; I'm not so rich that I can easily justify buying more than one next gen system. I would have been very pissed off right now had I chosen a 360, which I almost did. I made no generalizations about anyone else in this thread.

So sorry for being happy about my purchase. Didn't realize that saving myself at least $200 made me a "fanboy idiot."

Though, I certainly do think you calling me an "idiot" simply for being happy that I won't have to spend hundreds more dollars makes you what I call an "*******."

You're an idiot for equating high def movies with next gen gaming. Being pissed about purchasing a 360 because Blu-Ray won would have been r****ded because eventually they will come out with an affordable Blu-Ray players just like they have affordable DVD players now.

But I want them now, and because I chose PS3 over 360, I can have them now. That would not have been the case had I gone the other way.

Seriously, if I had bought a 360 instead, how long do you think it would take for them to come out with a *good* Blu-Ray player under $150? Years, I'm guessing. And I'd rather not be paying even that much extra, and I certainly wouldn't want to wait years for hi-def movies.

Are you really not understanding that logic?

I don't think you are understanding what he is saying. You had no way of knowing what was going to 'win' this idiotic war...so it really didn't matter either way. You bought a movie player, essentially - which has little to do with the gaming side.

In other words, you clearly wanted a blu ray player when you bought. So had you bought a 360, that doesn't change a thing. Hence, if you had bought a 360 you would have bought it for other reasons. So blu-ray 'winning' isn't going to 'piss you off'.

The system never tied itself to the 'format' war. Yeah, you had the add-on, but if you wanted to to pick a side in the 'war' or hell even just check out some HD media - then, you'd have bought that.

i.e., most people bought a 360 for reasons other than HD-DVD. Being 'pissed' that HD-DVD lost doesn't make much sense.

No, you're wrong. I clearly wanted a next-gen gaming system when I bought. I was GOING to buy either a PS3 or a 360, because I wanted to play games. That was reasons 1, 2, and 3 for me. The fact that it was also a Blu-Ray player wasn't on my radar at the time. Over time, that changed, and I started to become interested in HD movies. And now, I'm happy that it happened to turn out that the system I bought supports the winning HD format. Hence, I feel like I gained an HD player at no extra charge, instead of having to buy one had I instead gone with the 360 (plus, if I had originally bought a 360, I would've bought the HD-DVD add-on since I became interested in HD movies mid-way through, which I would now consider a waste of money).

Hence my quote earlier in this thread: "this FURTHER justifies my decision to go with PS3 over 360." (which I did not take into consideration when I originally bought the machine)

It's funny, now that Toshiba pulled out, all of my HD-DVD's look like they are on VHS. WTF am I going to do with my HD-DVD player? It's a paper weight!! But you know what pisses me off more than that? I'm going to be able to buy more HD-DVD's (that lost their HD-ness) for cheap soon. The horror!!

What are you talking about? Your HD DVD's high def quality did not change overnight just because the format died. They are still high def. You won't get any more HD DVD's in new releases, but the old HD DVD's still have simliar high def video and sound to blu rays.

As for the HD DVD player, it's now a DVD upconverter, and a pretty darn good one at that.

    Sarcasm.

Still though, I prefer keeping my formats to a minimum. Already got DVDs and Blu-Rays. It'd be annoying to have yet more electronic equipment stacked up in my living room.

That's fine, really, and it's a perfectly okay decision IMO. I think you are the one who made MB's comment about you. I'm only commenting on his point about the fanboy bull**** - which he is right.

Also, you didn't consider the blu-ray player at all when you made your purchase? Really?

it has always been a vital part of the PS3 (and part of the reason it launched at 599). I would think most people would take it 'into consideration'.

In any case, there's nothing wrong with each person having their criteria for their purchase. to each his own. But what I got from MB's comment is the idiocy of the fanboy angle, which I agree with.

Looks like this thread has become as useless as the other one.

Really? So, given a choice between having, say, one player for all your movies or three, you'd rather have three all stacked up, possibly with an HDMI or component cable switch to boot?

When I was a kid my mom complained about the amount of electronic equipment in the living room, and now that I've grown up, the women in my life complain about it. How does it not make sense to want to hear less b****ing from the womenfolk?

Yes, really. I wasn't considering the Blu-Ray playback at the time. I had never seen a movie in Hi-Def before, and was of a mind that it wouldn't make all the much of a difference. When I finally did see one, I changed my mind. Simple. I'm not saying I wasn't aware of it, but it didn't really factor into my decision at the time. Backwards compatibility with upscaling, Tekken 6, and Final Fantasy 13 were what did it for me.

And yeah, I think it's stupid to be a "fanboy" of one system or another. And I don't think my simple remark that I'm happy Blu-Ray won the war because I own a PS3 in any way justifies calling me a "fanboy idiot." I am not seeing why someone has to insult me just because I remark that I'm happy with my purchase. That is bull***t.

Send a good one to my door and I'll get right on that. I live in Wisconsin, so I hope she likes cold weather. :p

Ha, I didn't mean anything against your mom.

I love electronics but I like everything to be neat and organized as well. This is what we did:

On the woman thing, you're on your own bro. I suggest Swedes. Mine gives me zero crap about my media stuff. Also, Wisconsin is a walk in the park compared to Sweden ;)
