I've been entertained, but my expectations are low compared to those who have played the games. I get some nit-picks about how dumb Ellie and Dina are. Yeah, they shouldn't be making noise, one person should keep watch while another sleeps, turning on power/light sources makes them noticeable, and walking through the streets casually chatting is just asking to get heard. It's not Walking Dead levels of stupid yet, but the showrunners should be aware that ruins some immersion.
You make some good points. The only defense I'll make of their behavior in the streets is that the WLF is not a gigantic force and the Seraphites don't control a ton of territory. There are large parts of the city that are supposed to feel abandoned.
I was a little confused by the last clip of Joel coming into the room to talk to Ellie. Is this just foreshadowing something that game players know is coming? I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to glean from that.
But do Ellie and Dina know that? It's a new city to them that they're trying to learn the landscape of safe zones and danger areas. And they're not aware of the infected, either. Again, these are nitpicks that do ruin the immersion a bit, but not the plot overall. I don't recall the lack of caution in season 1 when it was Joel and Ellie, but it has been a while so I can't say for certain. If the writers could tighten that up and pay more attention to detail, that'd be one less complaint the naysayers would have.
Yeah, I got that it was a flashback since he was dead, but my wife immediately thought it was some key point that would be revealed in a future episode that the reason Ellie suddenly started going cold to Joel was because he told her the truth about what he did at the hospital. But I didn't get that at all, but I wasn't sure what I WAS supposed to get with that sudden, very small clip after such an intense scene.
Imagine if I watched Real Housewives just so I could go in Bravo Tv online forums to troll people about stupid I thought that show was. You were told this show obviously isn’t for you and you can’t handle it with your insecurities. Yet you still couldn’t help yourself. The show has lesbians that don’t look like your fantasy of WWE female wrestlers who are on HGH. If the show runners cared about incel online maga activists, they’d cast Trish Stratus and the lady from Haywire I can’t think of right now.
This is actually a great discussion point. Which WWE wrestlers would be able to replace Ellie and Abby? For me, outside of WWE and with actual actresses, I really would have loved seeing Katy O'Brian be Abby. That would have been an A+ casting.
I always see comments about the physique being crucial and how HBO should have gotten Katy OBrien to play Abby. The reason people say her is because she is literally the only respected female actor that has muscles… and even then, OBrien has talked about how long it took her to train for Love Lies Bleeding and how she had to have surgery etc. that completely reversed her gains in weeks and how hard it was to get back to that look. These type of body transformations take months if not the better part of a year for a female actress. With the time restraints of a tv show you might have a few weeks to a couple months max to train. So Katy OBrien might not have even been in Love Lies Bleeding shape, might have been booked with other projects, and she’s literally the only one. So whether it’s Katlyn Dever, or Sydney Sweeney, or Zendaya or whomever…. All of those female actors would need like a year to look like Abby from the video game. And if you cast a female wrestler or body builder whose job it is to look a certain way in a role that requires some serious acting chops… you run the risk of not being able to train that body builder how to act like an A list award winning star actor. Also it’s funny cause these same weirdo internet bros who complain that hbo cast an actor without 20 inch pythons are the same ones who went on diatribes whining on the internet about the actual game because they hated how “woke” TLOU2 was and made Abby a meme to channel their hate. So I just don’t get it. Again it’s like me spamming Bravo forums about Real Housewives or Below Deck. It’s kind of pathetic and I don’t know why people can’t just find a hobby they like instead of getting off on whining nonstop about stuff like this or Star Wars.
...or they could just have hired Kay O'Brian. Even Florence Pugh would have been a better fit although she is way too big (and expensive) an actress to hire. Kaitlyn Dever was just not a good fit, both actresses (Abby and Ellie) don't have the physicality to carry the roles they do. What you are saying sounds just like settling when there are lots of actresses out there, surely the ones they hired were not the best available for the job. Edit: Dina actress on the other hand has been an A+ casting, just like Pedro Pascal was an A+ Joel.
Calm down breh, I didn't mean to insult your favorite show.... I just thought it was funny, I haven't even watched a single episode of season 2... Oh, there is a show you would totally love.. Its called Ironheart...
I was just thinking, for Ellie I think Sophia Lillis would have killed it as Ellie, matched far better the role in looks, acting and voice.
I found the previous 3 episodes to be pretty horrid. The dialogue was killing me, nothing seemed to tie in or make sense, I was forcing myself through the episodes. This episode was really good, and reminded me that I wasn't crazy in enjoying the first season because I was starting to wonder "was it always this bad?". The Jalen Green of TV shows. I think the obvious underlining factor is that Joel's character make this show, not only for the viewers, but the writers/director because it feels like they were lost without him. The casting for Ellie's character seems to work way better as a teenager under Joels wing rather than being a bad ass main character.
