Part of the problem with the writing is it's not rational for Joel to feel like he deserved it. There's an unambiguous moral justification for his actions, and he made zero attempt to explain that to his killers.
Thanks HP, that was a great scene, and I totally forgot Melanie Lynskey was in that!!! She is in a bunch of shows I like.....she is great in Yellowjackets, but I will always think of her as Rose from 2.5 men
Caught up the other day. Still don't see the negativity towards Bella Ramsey. Sure, she looks nothing like the source character, but eh, at least they didn't pull a Netflix and DEI her. Didn't expect Joel to die, but I could see it for a narrative perspective. I didn't like how he fell into Abby's lap. Her crew searched for him for 5 years, seemingly breaking off the militia for their selfish purpose, wonders how they'll find one man in a large settlement only for him to be gift wrapped. It was just too convenient. And **** Abby for initiating that horde. Thought we'd also get more journey to Seattle but there's barely a montage of it. Ellie and Dina just trek a thousand miles as if it was nothing. I guess my biggest complaints so far is that the plot is moving too fast with no time spent showing the journey. Google says it's a short season at 7 episodes. There should be more to fill the gaps.
It's less than 900 miles from Jackson Hole to Seattle, but point taken. Hopefully there's more about The Seraphites and why the Wolves hunted them down in the coming episodes.
The game also did a huge, context-less jump between Jackson and Seattle. I agree it was weak and rushed. Looking at a map suggests they could've avoided major population centers, especially if they stayed off the highways as Dina suggested, but it would've been nice to see some sort of challenge in traveling 800 miles by horseback.
Caught up with episode 4.............that was so dam WOKE I love this series, but dam I am going to miss Pedro, to me he was the character I was rooting for and had NO clue he was leaving (never played the game) Still a great show
I think they did a poor job with that moment. It, and their presence in Seattle so far, is quite different than the game. Gonna spoiler my thoughts: Spoiler In the game Ellie and Dina hook up in Jackson before Joel is murdered. Ellie is with Dina as Abby is torturing him. Dina accompanies Ellie to Seattle because she has feelings for her, not because of a relationship with Joel that didn't exist in the game. This dynamic makes the pregnancy reveal more interesting in the game because Ellie resents Dina for suspecting that she was pregnant, keeping it a secret, and creating a liability for Ellie on her revenge tour. This is important because Ellie is a revenge-minded wrecking ball in the game who gradually loses her humanity as she hunts the Seattle crew. Dina grounds her, but Ellie is angry that Dina would come along and inject literal humanity (pregnancy) into her quest for blood. They're not portraying Ellie in Seattle with enough malice so far. I think that's a disservice to the show because, if the next episode features what I think it does, then it might strike fans as a bit jarring. So far Ellie and Dina have been exploring Seattle, but not consumed with revenge. For this story to work, Ellie has to be just as focused on payback as Abby was while we also learn enough about Abby to understand her motivations.
whole time I thought this was gonna be a Joel-centered show with Ellie as the main side character…thought we would be basically following his story so when he got killed off like that so early I was like didn’t like episode 4…felt like nothing happened we really sat there and listened to Ellie play the guitar for like 2 minutes this episode felt like someone writing a paper for English class, but they didn’t really have sh*t to say, so they just add a bunch of unnecessary sentences and extra words to get to the required page or word count episode 5 looks like it should be good based off the preview tho
They're going to stretch it out to 2 seasons. Opening act was intense, but a lot of the middling around felt like walking dead on a downslope.
I was skeptical as soon as I saw that they were stretching it into two seasons and that this one would only be 7 episodes.
They’ve stayed true to the game. Everything that happened in episode four, happened in the game, so it’s not like they’re just making **** up.
They have stayed pretty damn faithful to the game, but Bella is awful. Her casting in the first season was not that bad considering she was younger, and she seemed much less annoying, but this version of her is absolutely terrible. She's singlehandedly ruining the show.
