Wow, those pics are amazing. Goosebumps. The fighting looks really good and seems to follow the story so far. You've done a great job of stewarding your thread, Commodore. Nice work.

They sure seem to be throwing a lot of money at this series. Both in production value (for a TV show) and in advertising. Hopefully it is very successful so they can justify continuing that level of investment moving forward.
I'd be surprised if they made the entire series. Hell, who knows if George will even finish it before they are ready to pass him on the show. But I think they could just do the first three books and that would be pretty satisfying. Season 1 - Game of Thrones Season 2 - Clash of Kings Season 3 - Storm of Swords - Part I (Steel and Snow) Season 4 - Storm of Swords - Part II (Blood and Gold) That ties up most of the story arcs. I'd love to see the whole thing, but unless the ratings are out of this world, I don't see how that happens with what it's going to cost to be made.
Looks like there is a flurry of activity from the publisher, and I think GRRM is just about done with ADWD. Link 6 Janaury 2011 Update: GRRM had previously hoped to make a 'big announcement' at a book signing in Pasadena, Los Angeles on 9 January, but then spent most of Christmas and New Year's in hospital with a serious e.coli infection. He has since recovered and will be attending the signing and a press junket event for the TV series, but has said that the 'big announcement' will no longer be happening, as all of his work has been delayed by several weeks due to his illness. Fans speculate that this might be related to the completion of and possible publication plans for A Dance with Dragons, but this has not been confirmed by any official source and remains speculative. 22 January 2011 Update: Bantam Books have revealed ambitious plans to re-launch the entire series in new covers (using the UK cover art by Larry Rostant, though swapping the art for A Game of Thrones and A Dance with Dragons) on 22 March 2011, accompanied by TV and print adverts and a large, multimedia campaign. There will also be optional TV tie-in editions of A Game of Thrones to accompany the launch of the TV series on 17 April. Bantam have also reported that they are re-drafting the maps for the books in response to an excellent fan map of Westeros and also hinted that they have been working on the new map of the Free Cities that will accompany A Dance with Dragons. This flurry of activity comes after Martin confirmed that he had hoped to make 'the announcement' at the Pasadena signing but this has been delayed by his illness. He hopes to still make that announcement 'soon'. Exactly how 'soon' is 'soon' and the role Bantam envisage for ADWD in their other marketing plans both remain open to speculation at this time. I think GRRM can do it if he gets some of his irons OUT of the fire, like the wild card stuff, etc. Season 1 - Game of Thrones Season 2 - Clash of Kings Season 3 - Storm of Swords - Part I (Steel and Snow) Season 4 - Storm of Swords - Part II (Blood and Gold) Season 5 - A Feast For Crows Season 6 - A Dance With Dragons Season 7 - Book 6 Season 8 - Book 7 That gives him six years to finish the remaining two books. I think he has a ton of material from writing AFFC and ADWD that he can use in the next books. I know AFFC and ADWD have been a huge issue for him so hopefully the rest of the writing will be downhill.
Spoiler I've been vocal about not being sold on the actor playing Jon Snow, but I am digging this picture of him on the Iron Throne with Ghost.
Xero, I'd love to see it. But with the budget, I keep thinking back to what happened to ROME. I'm just preparing myself for it, that's all. I'm deranged that way. I always feared that if we saw an adaptation of this it would be massacred in film and dumbed down to PG-13. So I am thankful for whatever we get.
Ghost is HUGE in that pic- how I pictured the Direwolves. In the production screenies and the behind the scenes footage, the Direwolves had been regular-sized. I suppose they're going to use CGI to make them bigger. I'm hoping for the best with the series since the producers are fans of the books. HBO does do things in a strange way, though. Not your typical tv company.
I've read that the only CG will be in their eyes. I don't think Ghost is quite that large, it's just the way the camera is angled. Being on HBO can be a curse and a blessing. Good because you don't have to worry about them cutting the sex and violence. But bad because HBO seems to just go way over the top with the amount of sex (i.e. True Blood) over story.
Maybe, but judging from the few previews I was shocked there wasn't more sex being put out there to draw in the crowd and create a buzz. I realize that some of it can't be previewed because it would be kind of a spoiler.
Spoiler I figured an underage Daenerys Targaryen blowing a much older man and getting finger ****ed by her female slave would garner a lot more heat.
