Anyone else catch this documentary on HBO this week? Very interesting and even more troubling. The four idiots involved in this thing are far from innocent, but it really looks like the gov went a little too far with this scheme. I'd be willing to bet that that this operation would've netted similar results in any impoverished or poor neighborhood in the country. Regardless of the perpetrators religion.

Here's a LINK to a Times article on the doc if you missed it.

    Did you read the evidence?

Who is more likely to be biased? A court or a filmaker who only makes money if he demonstrates controversy?

Courts can certainly be biased AND wrong, but the film apparently doesn't show the full slate of evidence while making that claim.

I watched the documentary last night and James Cromitie struck me as somebody who would have said anything to garner favor with Hussein so that he could strike it rich.

The guy seemed to be completely full of ****. The other poor SOBs seemed to be so desparate that they would have committed hate crimes for the Arian Brotherhood if the price were right.

I'd wager my money on neither of those and place it firmly on the FBI.

They have a rather impressive history of busting terrorist plots concocted by themselves.

Haven't watched it, and don't have an opinion on the case. But, as for the legitimacy and the impartiality of the courts, they can only enforce the laws that have been passed. Just because a sting doesn't meet the legal definition of entrapment doesn't mean it isn't really entrapment as citizens might define it as they make ethical judgements.

Much like how honest businesses will avoid not only engaging in corruption but also the appearance of corruption, the FBI should avoid illegal entrapment and anything that might look to the public like entrapment. That there is skepticism enough that it is a public debate means that probably didn't steer a wide enough berth.

Just saw it and was totally disturbing. I urge everybody to see this film before they make any judgements.
