That is an old post, FYI. Just posted it because it was asked where that number originally came from.
The fact that Ariza is meeting with other teams has me a little shocked I wonder if he’s done with Houston I had the jest that there was sort of a brotherhood with Ariza, harden and Paul and the ball boy Bobby Brown
The dude is from Cali. This is his last chance at a big payday. I'm not surprised he's looking to get more money and none of us should either. Whether or not he gets more than $10 mill a year is a different story.
Dude, Ariza is a solid player abd one of the better defenders in the league I’m not saying he will be overpriced by league standards but for our standards abd what we’re trying to do he might
You don't have to sell me on Ariza. I am just saying there aren't teams out there clamoring to OVER PAY for him. It is about the MARKET.
I personally can see a playoff team like Indiana, Utah, Milwaukee, New Orleans (if they let go Cousins, Parker, Favors) in need of a veteran pay him around 12/14M, but for one season, maybe two at best, no way anybody pays him that much for three or four years.
I see your point and what you notated. IIRC Indiana is in on Will Barton (DEN) & Tyreke Evans (MEM) Milwaukee doesn't have room IF they keep Parker Utah may IF they are out on Favors & Exum N'Awluns out if they keep Cousins (looking more & more likely if Dallas trades for DAJ) So I think the market will be fairly small for Ariza & what he wants ($$$ + playoffs). Houston could probably bring him back on 3 years, $30M. (Saw an article that said that as well)
Indiana is going for bigger fish. Utah has money tied up in Ingles. Milwaukee has to figure out Jabari New Orleans - That is a good suggestion. But they can only offer FULL MLE. See, that is what I am saying. No cap teams will be offering and FULL MLE is probably the top end. That is the market. Rockets just need to come in above that.
Unless he wants to suit up for a non-playoff team that has capspace to give him a more lucrative deal, at most he'll get the non-taxpayer MLE IMO.
I actually think New Orleans makes a ton of sense. The NEED a wing with length. And they are competing now. BUT the most they can offer is FULL MLE. That is the market the Rockets are competing with.
That makes sense and he's played there before. I've came to terms with Ariza being gone for the past 3 years now lol. I'm sure Morey has a list of replacements to fill in the gap if Ariza leaves.
I'm not saying Ariza leaves. Just that he can create a market for himself at FULL MLE level. He has a place on the Rockets. Friends. They are a contender. He likely stays, just creates his salary market.
Sign & trade? Shouldn't be possible? Anyway yeah, not saying it's likely, i agree it's unlikely and like i said only if other things happen first and for a limited amount of time anyway, i already don't see teams giving him that kind of money for two years, but for one, eh, i think that might be possible, again, not easy etc, but still, let's say i wouldn't write that off.
As good as Ariza is Im ready to see someone different in his place. Probably because he was already here a while before the Harden era. I dont hope he retires a Rocket.I'd hate for the Rockets to lose him for nothing in return though.
