This is all agency leverage to get more money out of the Rockets. Andre Iguodala's agent did the same stuff last summer.
Ariza...you can leave for more money but damnit please dont go to the Warriors. Or you know what...plz just stay.
Was it Kelly Iko that was talking about Ariza wanting 50-60 mil? Shams sh*tted all over that scoop. Iko might want to lay low for awhile.
At best he gets a 4 yr based on his current contract. The Rockets are the only one that can freely bid for his services and they know it so his agent will allow them to beat any offer. Like any FA he wants to get out there early and get offers before the limited money dries up but he already has an offer from the Rockets and knows they will match anything. I think he and the team want him to retire here.
This is what I'm thinking too. Rockets are allowing him to set his price and they'll match. I doubt he gets much more than his current per year but we'll see. Doubt he joins the dubs as rumored. He seems like a player that wants to be apart of taking them down.
He the only one with championship experience on the team. Hope he doesn't go. But if he does as long it's not the Warriors.
I don't know about y'all... but watching Ariza clang 8-10 three pointers against us and taking away shots from the Splash Bros sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I jest, I jest. I want Ariza on our bench, and I get the impression he's the type of player who wants to bury the Warriors, not join them like some b*tch.
The thing with Ariza is. He is a 33yr old wing. The teams with cap space are young and aren't going to be interested in Ariza. The contenders only have the taxpayer MLE to use. Maybe there is a team willing to give the FULL MLE. But the Rockets could easily beat that. So to me, that's what I would be looking at. Stay in Houston on a contender with your friends for a deal slightly larger than full MLE money.
Ariza is an important piece of our team since we can't sign LBJ or Durant. His defensive skills are valuable.
Can someone let me know where it actually was reported that Ariza was looking for $50-$60M? I want to know so I know never to trust that journalist again. Even if a source told you that, it seems pretty far fetched IMO as Ariza strikes me as a guy who is still looking to be a contributor on a contender and not looking for the money only. Also, this may seem minor but he probably pulled in some change being in a commercial with CP3 and Harden. We can still give him a reasonable contract and he gets to be with his buddies who most of them have LA ties so they relate to each other really well. I don't see any other contenders that can offer that and give him an MLE type deal.
Ah ok, it was Iko that reported then, correct? As I mentioned in a post, that is such an erroneous report that Iko can never be trusted (not that anyone would). If you are going to "report" on fake reports at least make them believable. Unfortunately there will be dumbass twitter users who will still believe any tweet as long as there is a check mark by someone's name. Journalism is dead and it's a real shame.
