it's funny how people seem to forget how amazing Hayes was both defensively AND offensively when he first got here.. and it's sad how much he declined here's what Clutch wrote in the post-game review of Hayes' 2nd game as a Rocket and 1st game getting major minutes: yes, 12 points and 13 boards, and a game-saving play.. 2 games later, Chuck went 3-4 in 21 minutes and grabbed 12 boards.. that badassery at it finest.. the next game, he gets 11 points and 8 boards on 4-4 from the field and 3-5 from the FT line..in freaking 28 minutes.. I can go on and on and on, but in that hideous 05-06 season, he was the only bright spot (at least for me).. I freaking loved this guy and hated Howard.. Chuck consistently shot in the 80% range going 3-4, 5-6, 6-6 sometimes.. posting around 10 points and double digit rebounds.. he had that sweet top of the key PnR with Mac and unlike ANYONE we had on that team, he rolled aggressively to the basket, GRABBED the pass, and finished around the rim with an extremely high percentage.. I loved him, I still love him, but the dude needs to get that swagger back.. he's been reduced to a Ryan Bowen, when in reality he could be a lot more than just a defensive player who can't do jack on offense! it just seems like his ability to finish around the basket has diminished with time, and the good ol' pick and roll with Tmac is almost non existent.. Man I used to love "calling" a "top of the key PnR!!!!" every time I saw them get into that set, and I loved the fact that Chuck had badass hands and never fumbled a pass.. he's like the opposite of that now.. /incoherent rambling about the good days.. I should go to sleep now
way to go chuck wagon!! we here at clutchfans here love ya....except for some of those bandwagoners who from time to time bring up the trade Hayes for 2nd round pick!!
Just for the sake of comparison, I put together KG's numbers when Chuck was in and out of the game. KG vs. anyone else - 22:13, 12 points, 6-13 shooting, 4 boards, 1 TO KG vs. Chuck - 12:04, 6 points, 3-6 shooting, 0-1 FT, 4 boards, 0 dominance. It's also worth noting that 2 of his rebounds against Chuck were on the one spectacular possession where he kept getting his misses back and another was at the end of the half.
You can also note that 4 of the 6 points he scored were because of screens. One was Big baby holding him down low and the other was cause he got caught on Ron on a pick and roll.
last night he and landry were both catalysts. if we could get that kind of play out of all of our pfs every night, we'd be hard to beat. they just have a nose for the ball.
Great minds think a like. Chuck is a situational player. He always plays great against dominant low post scorers. However if the opposing team doesn't have a dominant low post threat it should be all Scola and Landry.
can someone make a video of his defense on garnett that one possession? that sequence of events was classic
Oh my Gosh, what a game. NBA, take a closer look at him, he deserves to be in the disscussion for DPOY
I have to admit, I always wonder why Hayes is still on this team. He can't shoot beyond 5 feet, he is short, and he gets bullied by guys that are thicker then him. Then there's a night like tonight, when he simply changes the flow of a game single handidly and I remember why. He inspires his teammates to play harder. Simple as that. The man is inspiring to watch in his hustle.
I do not know if Chuck would be in the game if our other two PFs were not in the foul troubles, then there would be another lost. Chuck is a defensive stop for any super PFs in NBA, he should be used with Yao, Brook, Wafer together, then you do not need him to score. Scola and Landry can just not stop super PFs from other team, I am just saying, Rick.
That is all Rick Adelman. Rick Adelman has never ran a Pick and Roll offense and it's not surprising that Tracy McGrady's numbers have gone down since Adelman got here. The thing you forgot to mention is that Chuck sets a screen like a tree trunk, so after he rubs off McGrady's man, the help has to come, so when Chuck rolls to the basket, he is wide open. I don't think Chuck has gotten worse, I think he just doesn't get the same opportunities in Rick Adelman's offense. The reason why he was finishing at such a high clip under Van Gundy was because he was open more. When you are 6' 6", you aren't going to make a lot of contested shots, which is pretty much all you get in Rick Adelman's offense. This is why Landry stands out more, even though he is realistically nothing but raw talent with no real understanding of the game. But he can finish in traffic.
I wonder how many calls Morey got this morning regarding trade proposals? I would guess at least half of the GM's expecting to run into Garnett, Gasol, or Tim Duncan in the playoffs.
I saw someone posted this one: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IuvicmG_zgk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IuvicmG_zgk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
