My husband finished doing the taxes last night. Getting about $300 back, though we should... I'm supporting somebody who didn't work all last year.

I'm getting $116 back this year, which is better than owing $300 last year with no real form of income.... I also found out that if I refile my claim from last year, I can get all that money back plus a refund. I forgot to claim my education expenses, which is why I owed money. So I'm looking at about $500 or so total.

I'm getting reamed, but at least I let my money work for me this year instead of lending the govt.

    Still, it hurts.....

Originally we owed about x, then my accountant reviewed the company I sold last year, and the year before we sold it, I had a loss.

I therefore am able to offset some earnings with that loss, and wallah...I go from owing x, to getting X+ back.

Now THAT was a good call to get from my CPA.

Filed electronically for free, since I ain't got none of that complicated stuff like exemptions to worry about. As long as the IRS got my "Approval to file electronically" form I'll be getting a little bit back ($239), but at this point every little cent counts.

Finished last week, getting a nice little chunk back... it's a choice between a downpayment on a Harley and a new couch... I'll probably go with the couch. (I know Mrs. rimrocker will.)

i just pay estimated taxes on my scholarships so i don't get refunds because it's kinda hard to overestimate when you just have to subtract two smaller numbers from a bigger number. i actually just paid the amount of last year's estimated taxes (because that's all you have to pay) so i owe a little more at this time b/c i didn't lose money in the stock market (yay!). plus, apparently the 10% tax bracket is bigger this year so all my taxable income fell in that and saved me about 50 over what i would've paid last year.

I filed pretty early as I used my boss who is a CPA. I also used the direct deposit feature and the refund came back pretty quickly. I got back about $1,350 and I used every bit of it on CDs!!

No, not really, but I did buy about 10 CDs with the money and the rest went to house insurance and trying to get my blasted credit card paid off.

Owning a house is awesome, just for the tax benefits alone.

Mid four figure refund for us, which is going to allow my wife to stay home with our kid the rest of the year.

My chopper will have to wait till next year I guess. *sigh*

I actually had to pay a pretty sizable chunk this year. But it's cool! Had to pay the penalty for cashing in some stock early but there was enough left to put a down payment on a weekend house in the Catskills.

    It's all good!

A house in the Hamptons would have been better.

    Well...Yeah!

But we're more "mountian and lake" people rather than snotty nosed, stuck up. rich people.

    :D

And if I'm going to buy a beach house, it would be Martha's Vineyard rather than the Hamptons.

E-filed the first day they allowed it through Turbotax (Jan. 19th I think) and had it spent by mid-February, all $560 of it.
