(is that controversial??? should i not be visiting people in prison???) no, seriously. didn't mean to go d&d. just answered the question.
No, my mom is a frequent visitor to a prison up in Tennessee Colony here in Texas to visit my cousin. She has asked me to come with her but I am not too keen on that. I'm not close to my cousin at all.
i never got involved in drugs with her....just tried to help her out. you learn some tough lessons trying to help someone who can't be helped.
I know. Remember my best friend, John? It's weird how people that were so close can take such polar opposite paths . . .
I've visited "the hole" in an arizona prison...it was eerie to say the least. i probably have pics somewhere.
I watched that as well. Had some interesting perspectives. Real prison is a lot nastier and much more boring.
I've been told by numerous former and current attendants of several state and federal prison systems that real prison and "Oz" are absolutely nothing alike.
I used to do prison ministry in the Darrington Unit back in the 80s. I can't tell you how much I learned. The only funny story was this one guy - the first thing he wanted to do was get a Big Mac. He'd seen the TV commercials but they didn't have MickeyDs in his area before he started serving his time (he'd been in since the 50s). "They look so good!". I didn't want to bust his bubble.
Yes, county, several different ones, in fact... Though they were there for an extended sort of stay. Long enough to have visitors.
Sunday night in Abilene several years back. I get a phone call: My buddy Jorge got busted for possession (weed) somewhere just outside San Antonio. Me and my GF road-tripped it down there that night, got super-baked on the way, had sex in an EconoLodge, got up the next morning in time to buy a camera, and went to bail him out. Many pictures were taken. Don't know whatever happened to them, though. He still owes me one for that.
No, I just didn't want to see you go into your whole 'jail is bad' / 'jail is uncool' routine -- when we all know that prison kicks ass.
