But Please fill out your personal history section so people can get an idea whether or not you are a teenager or not. Antique quotes will not gain you credibility in a place where they can be referenced.

Something that happened 57 years ago, Maynard, is considered antique by some people.

When I was 15-17, I tried one of just about everything (except needles, they give me the willies) and quit at 17 with a fairly serious coke issue. I became a drug abuse counselor and worked primarily on adolescent chemical dependancy units for about 5 years.

I found that the biggest reason kids give for using drugs is that they might as well do them while they are young, when there aren't any major consequences, unlike in adulthood. Adults I talked to had generally not been educated as to the effects of the drugs they were using. You would be surprised how many people get off coke once they are aware of what it actually does to them.

This is why I say that if we take drugs out of the hands of children and educate people as to the real effects of drug use and abuse, we will be able to reduce drug use in our society. We are attacking the symptom and if we are to make any progress, we need to attack the cause.

I've never heard anyone give either of those for a reason and I was a 10 year dealer of many, many different vices - which paid for the many I had. We did them because they were available and the only time we didn't do them was when it wasn't.

You are half right - education is answer but legalizing is wrong.

Regulating the industry is the only way to reduce drug use. A century of prohibition capped by the most expensive failed policy in American history (the "War on Drugs") has proven that banning these substances will not do anything but increase demand, especially among children.

Try talking to people who are recovering from drug use and addiction rather than those that are actively using.

Please try to substantiate your claim with something more than "legalizing is wrong."

Actually Manny I was referring to his Nietzche quote earlier in the thread. But I guess you had no reference to that and wanted to make a smart ass remark.

And my point was, you seem older than 16 since you used a Nietzche quote in the middle of a thread, but I would like to know how old you are because there are websites where you can type in a topic and it will give you a good quote. I was just curious how old you were because I found some of the things you say interesting (although I often disagree). I am always perplexed by people who don't fill out at least the basics of their profile.

So legalizing alcohol reduced alcohol abuse?
