Stevie Francis: Extremely cool, he talked with me a while at the Music Warehouse about the Rockets and Destiny's Child. I also asked him why he liked alternative music. He shrugged and grinned. He told me he liked all kinds of music. HeyDude...I must have seen him with the same girl because she looked pissed. I've seen Steve around a lot...with 3 different chicks. An ugly black girl, a hot black girl, and a hot white girl. No Beyonce though. Bob Horry: I love this man. So nice, so down-to-earth. I met him when I was 15 in San Antonio. Eddie Griffin: Doesn't rerally know how to carry on a conversation, but he is cool and the girl hanging off his arm was fine.
Rodney Macray - Met him at a pep rally before game one of the '94 championship series. Nice guy. Sleepy Floyd - At Sams Boat on Richmond. More or less a jerk. Robert Reed - Met him at CiCi's pizza. As my wife and I walked in, there was an autographed picture of him on the wall. My wife asked who it was and I told her. As we sat down to eat, my wife looked over and said "look at him. He sure is tall!". Sure enough it was Robert Reed. He sat at the table next to us. I showed him the Rockets tatoo on the back of my head and he had one just like it on his arm. One hell of a nice dude. Robert Horry - At a Nextell cellular phone outlet in the middle of the '94 season. Told him he'd played good defence the night before and he said thanks. Allen Leavell - At a 7 eleven on 1960 many years ago. He looked like he just pulled himself out of a gutter or something but was nice enough.
Posted: The Real Shady Hey TheRealShady, you sure Maloney wasn't looking over at something else instead of your watch? What a way to meet a former Rocket....hahaha...
I met Calvin Murphy 2 or 3 times, he signed some stuff and was super nice! Then one evening at the restraunt "Houston's" I met Mat Maloney...he had a tall white dude with him named Bull...or something like that They were both nice,
I've hung out with Rudy's oldest daughter when she's in Galveston....they have a beach house close to mine...Molly's Pub to be exact. Met Robert Horry right before the playoffs started the year of the first title at Two Pacos (now Taco Cabana)...he talked for a little while. Met most of the team...they would practice in Galveston (Ball High School) Scotty Brooks dunked on Dream during a scrimmage!!! I see my cousin 12 years old and 6'1...future Rocket. I was a waiter at Colina's on Richmond and we were short handed so I took food over to Greenway and made a delivery to WHO? You guessed it Doc Rocket...I didn't know who he was at the time though! I hated that job! I did the the two trophies though...4th or 5th floor I can't remember.
That's pretty weird, because the encounter I was about to post was meeting Charles at Chili's in First Colony...he must like those Bottomless Tostada Chips With Salsa. And the time I saw Kenny Smith was alongside Sam Cassell and Mario Elie at West Oaks Mall. Strange stuff.
I met Barkley when he was on the Suns at the Galleria. He was just walking around and he was friendly and talkative to pretty much every person who came up to him. You have to love Chuck. I met Drexler at my middle school, he was at one of my baseball games. His kids went to the school. Nicest guy you will ever meet. We have season tickets were all the wives sit and Mad Max's wife used to sit next to use so we met him once or twice. His son looks exactly like him. He is actually a pretty decent guy it seesm like.
I met Roderick Rhodes on two seperate occasions, once at footlocker at rice village trying on some ugly shoes, and at Kenny Smith's store in Sugarland. Kenny was there too.
i just saw Clyde "the Glide" Drexler at the 10 pm showing of Sum of All Fears @ Edwards Cinema off of 59 & Weslayan (Small World-since I posted earlier today about another Rocket encounter) .........I actually cut in front of him & some lady (wife?) and i turned around and saw it was him........then i saw him again going up the aisles........I sat on the same plane as Robert Horry in early September 2001 flying into LA from H-town.....
Are you sure he said "Nice Watch?" Or was it, "Nice Crotch?" I know a guy that pissed next to James Cameron at the Golden Globes a few years ago. Cameron directed Titanic and the Terminator flicks in case you don't recognize his name. My friend couldn't confirm if Cameron was conpensating for something when he made "Titanic!" HA HA HA
I met two former Rockets today at Royal Oaks..... Othella Harrington---nice man, I cleaned his clubs, Looks skinier than in his Rocket days Eric Riley---nice. somewhat shy other Rockets I have met..... Steve Francis---In Austin at the Discover Card thing (5/5/2001) Mario Elie---just prior to 97-98 season, at Prince's Hamburgers for a KTRH740 show Brent Price---same as Mario Eddie Johnson---same as Mario, and saw him at Royal Oaks Otis Thorpe---met him at Royal Oaks Emmanual Davis---played golf with him at Royal Oaks, great family man Mike Woodson---met at Royal Oaks And I met Rudy T's son Trey a week ago at a wedding. Tremendously nice guy. you will agree if you ever see him. Easy to talk to.
Well I started writing, and I was knocked off line. So come tommorow, I will write down ever sports figure that I've ever met. I am not going to tell you guys what I do for a living, but If you have a question on a certin somebody, I will try to tell you what I know.
I was at the same signing.. got Drexler to sign a rockets basketball for me (yellow and red one too)... my dad met otis thorpe once. he said the guy was extremely rude. i don't blame athletes for their attitude though, if i was hounded by people every time i stepped out of my house, i too would be cranky and not have a happy disposition towards every single person i met. they are people too.
What about that dude last summer who met Hakeem Olajuwon at a grocery store and took pictures of him?
Hakeem - at an autograph session (he signed my Rockets tank top when I was a kid) Mario - another autograph session during th 1994 Finals (signed a hat for me) Willis - Grocery store I worked at Avery Johnson - @ work he was on the Spurs at the time, but still... Calvin Murphy - Rockets open house one year Bill Worrell - @ work This doesn't count, but I just talked to David Carr in the mall today!!
dude, that is great......what did David Carr have to say today at the mall? I met his family at a Fresno State game last fall and they were the nicest people.......very down to earth and David's father was talking about him as being an unassuming family man who really has his priorities straight and is focused beyond belief...
