imagine having that much hate for somebody because of the color of their skin...listening to all the things he’d take time out of his day to do to that black man makes him look so irrational

    from that guy’s Wikipedia page

Johnny Lee Clary was born on June 18, 1959, in Del City, Oklahoma. He was reportedly raised in a racist home, where his father encouraged racist language and abusive treatment of blacks[1] and saw to it that Clary attended an all-white church.[2] Although Clary's father, a Catholic, was not a Klansman, Clary claimed that his paternal uncle, Harold, was a member and that Harold boasted to Clary's father of shooting an African-American man. Johnny's father sent his son on the Sunday school bus every week to the First Baptist Church.[2]

His father is Catholic. How are u a racist Christian? All these racists and fervent Trump supporters are so fake claiming they’re people of God. How full of sh*t can somebody be?

When you have lived over 40 years on this planet and can only point to one person you have known as being racist.... then maybe you should do some internal auditing on what racist behavior you ignore or overlook. When you have literally millions of people complaining of racism... and you can only think of one example, then perhaps YOU are failing to see a problem or issue.

The overwhelming vast majority of people on this planet have some racist views.

I suppose the line is when does someone become a "racist".

Someone could argue that I was a racist. I have over my 40 years on this planet held views that I think can be safely called racist.

Over the decades my opinions have changed (and continue to change) on issues that involve race and gender and many other issues of the sort.

I think that someone can be quite racist and change, if they begin to see the world from the perspective of the other party and meet people from a particular race and bond with them.

What I have learned is that it can take effort to be open minded and look for perspective, but once you do that, your views will change quite a bit.

I've seen myself evolve my stance on racism over many years.

Now I take a much broader view on racism as a broad spectrum of thoughts, words and actions. Whereas years ago I would have said (as most Americans do, left or right) that I'm absolutely not racist, now I can recognize little racist thoughts that cross my mind now and then, be honest with myself about it in that moment, and promise to stay on the lookout and try to be better.

I will say it again. I don't think there are many who are straight up racist in that they hate people just for the color of their skin. I don't think Trump is one of those. Race is a factor in how we emotionally sort out people but it is part of many other factors. Race is more likely to play a role when it fits certain stereotypes we have of a particularly group of people. A large black man poorly dressed is likely to be treated much more differently than a short black man well dressed.

How do you define racist? Here is one arbitrary line I made up just for the sake of conversation. Explicit vs implicit racist.

Explicit is outright racist and they know they are a racist. This group is no longer acceptable in modern society, and while they do exist, they have mostly been defeated in the 1900s.

Implicit is a catch all from hidden bias to barely registering awareness of negative altitude toward other race. I personally don't call these people racist, but some do. I believe this is the next level that needs to be defeated to progress as a society. And really, this is on all of us.

Views are like habits, they get shaped over time and your brain is probably literally "wired" to continue them automatically, without your awareness of them. It's no surprise that most people don't think they have "racist" views when most probably most do (implicit). This is so much harder to rid of because it does mean a higher awareness of racial views from the individual is needed - until that happen, of course you don't think you hold any of those views and would even push back any suggestion that you may. Implicit racial bias is everywhere and it's hard to see that when nearly everyone is living in it. (in a way, you can't just fault police officers for their behavior - it's a society wide problem that has been accepted.... maybe, just maybe that is now changing) .

Racism and bias exist at least in part in everyone, including blacks. I'd love to see more black people admit their racial bias towards others. No one likes to be on the receiving end of sanctimonious lectures from people who are hypocritical. I've heard a lot of racism spouted, and much of it has come from black people towards whites or Asians. Reggie White is just one of many many examples.
