I used to dunk all the time.... when I was in little dribblers.. a league where the goal was like 7ft
5'10 and can dunk a volleyball. I'm like the poster on the first page; I can't palm a basketball so when I have to carry it up with both hands, I lose a lot of jump - but with a volleyball I don't have that problem and can bring it up with no loss of vertical.
not a jumping or dunking expert at all...if you didn't jump high enough, you...didnt jump high enough, and should have jumped higher 1. Sometimes. Shoes won't make you go from non-dunking to the old Vince Carter of course. But different TYPES of shoes it can vary, such as basketball shoes, running shoes (not recommended), cross trainers, etc. I'm sure some people thought they jumped higher after playing in Jordans "being like Mike" just off the placebo effect. Properly fitting shoes ALWAYS matter. Not so much for jumping but for overall leg and foot health. I'm convinced wearing cheap tight fitting shoes for years caused my knees to go out faster. 2. http://www.wikihow.com/Dunk
I've been close. My best days are probably behind me. I don't really play as much as i want to and are able to. I am 5'8''. I am about 130-135 lbs. I don't have to carry a lot of weight up there. I can grab the rim the first few times, but after that, my muscles get sore, and I can't get up there anymore. I wish I was a few inches taller. Maybe if I was four inches taller, I could dunk. I think my wingspan is 71 inches, but I don't know what it is pointing straight up. I cannot palm a ball. Not quite sure what my vertical is. I used to jump off of one foot, but the last few years, ive been jumping off of two feet. Not sure if that makes a difference. I can dunk 9 and a half. Atleast that is what we think it is at macalu's place.
i don't know the high schools in the U.S., but in China, all schools use standard goals. I've never dunked on a rim that is not bent down except that one dunk in the game. i tried countless times on good rims (just trying with buddies, hiding from the girls of course) and never made a clean dunk. some of them hitted the back of the rim and fell in, which i don't take them as dunking. I had the vertical leap that technically allows me to dunk, but as i said, my hands r too small to hold the ball right and press it down. i was the happiest guy on world when i dunked, despite the fact that we were getting our ass kicked by the other team
yes and still can at 6'1 and 170. one-handed or two, but definitely nothing fancy. "nothing fancy" as in not ccr-like (dude used to slam like nobody's business in our warm-ups before the busstop stalker league games).
I'm 5'8.5" 193lbs with a 7'4" standing reach and working on my hops I hit a 31 inch vertical jump last Sunday, and 34 inch off a short slow run ( should be 35 of a faster run) - enough to get my fingers over the rim everytime my full squat goes up I jump higher - I'll be dunking soon! you can see my training and jump videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/CoolColJ here is a guy I know who took his full squat from 400 to 600+lbs and standing jump from mid 30s to 47+ inch at 5'9" 210lbs! running jump at 51 inches http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zizMVDaiBhU
Oh yeah, my goal is a 44 inch standing jump and 48 off a run need a 525lb full squat at my current bodyweight.. should be able to dunk it anytime I want after that me thinks
I can dunk and I'm 6ft and 205 pounds but I'm not fat at all. Doctor says it's because of my big and huge bones along with my body muscle. That helps to be a succesfull fullback (football) in College. I'm 17 and I'm of Chinese and Portuguese descent. Last time I tried a 720 and I was confused and dunked on my friend's face lol
My junior year of high school, back in my prime, I could dunk. I'm 6'0 and was about 180 pounds back then. This was when I was a linebacker and could run a 40 yard dash in 4.97 seconds. Now I'm in college and, well...yeah
Its interesting that some bigger guys here cant palm the ball. I can palm a basketball even though I'm probably the shortest person here. It makes you wonder if its the size of your hands or the strength in your hands that counts.
When I was in my senior year in high school, I can jump high enough to do a simple one handed dunk but the problem is I have small hands and I cant palm the ball. But i dunked with a volleybal though. But now im fat and out of shape so dunking is just a dream for me
I was 6'1 when I was 16 years old. Could grab the rim with both hands easily and dunk a volleyball. now I am 31, still 6'1, can only grab the rim with one hand... good thing is that I never stopped playing ball throughout the years, thanks to all the pick up game courts all over US, Paris, Hongkong, Shanghai, and Beijing. Chinese.
Hey I'm European so what do you expect The most important reason for me not dunking that much is that my knees are worn down, I've had surgery twice on my knee (when I was 17 and 19) and my knees just do not take the stress of dunking to often.
Hang-time counts too. I could always jump high as others, but once I reached my peak, I would plummet back to the ground. I would always land first when I jumped with others.
Never dunked so far in 10 feets even tough I'm 5'11. I'm just 14 years old and I can touch the rim with no efforts. I'm athletic for a white-european guy! I expect to dunk in Summer 2009!
