I didn't know people in high school played on 8' foot goals. No but seriously, I am 6' and okay hops but my knees are very weak. Anyways, I tried at least 30 times to dunk on a 10' goal with a soccer ball and a wrestling mat that was on the court. I was eventually successful so I tell people I have dunked before. That is pretty impressive that you did that in a game though. Did you never dunk just playing around or only that one time in a game?
Back in tha day, I was a dunkin' BEAST--even at 5'11...been able to dunk since I got those first Reebok pumps that came out Used to be able to take 1 step, go up & dunk on a 10 ft rim but even better--me & my boyz used to play at this court that had 9 ft rims and dunks counted as 2 pts (everything else was one pt) so it was a Phi Slamma Jamma dunkathon all day errrday!! Dunk contests--all dat as Magic Johnson said, "they will dunk in yo face and make you like it" LOL I miss them dayzzzz After knee surgery and 17 more years to my name, I dunk about as often as Luis Scola
I'm pretty tall, 196 cm and I'm a point guard, I've dunked since I was 15 and I'm 18 now but I'm not dunking again, no way. We played a tournament a while ago and it was the last minute and I could tie the game but instead of dunking the ball I accidentally did what Jordan did in the all-star game and I slammed the ball in the back of the ring so I could only say bye bye to the game and we lost with 2 points. The guys on my team were so angry, and nowadays they call me choker.
Don't give up--practice on your own time so you throw down with authority next time and look at them like, NOW WHAT B!%@#ES!!!
Yeah I've dunked heaps and have been working on my vertical leap alot...i think im almost on 38 inch vertical which is pretty good.....ohh yeah im only 5"8 and can two hand alley dunk so i think im doing pretty good!!!
i'm 6'2" and i can still dunk barely with one hand. i used to throw down with two hands if i had a good drop step. and fast breaks were pretty easy. but i'm 29 now... and i've played bball only like 20 times in the last few years. so i'm pretty sure i suck now.
5'8", no hops, small hands (errr, "artist's hands"), no I can't dunk. But, when I was a teenager, I had a friend who had a basket on his driveway that was 9'5" or so, that we'd try to dunk on. We played there so much, we kept wearing out the nets, so he got a chain-link one like they have on some public courts. I was trying to dunk a little ball on it one afternoon, and the chain-link net caught the silver ring I was wearing, and I hung from my finger for a moment before the ring broke and dropped me on my butt. If it had been a stronger metal, I'd have been in some trouble.
Same here. I'm 6'2", long arms but small hands. I have no problem getting above the rim but I often lose grip going up. I'm also a 2 foot jumper so I can't just take off on anyone without the appropriate space to set my feet to get off. The most efficient dunk I could do is a basic 2-hand reverse. Dunking with one hand is too difficult for me.
6'2", 33 yrs old. I couldn't dunk on the high school team, but for some reason when I got to college, my vertical went up about 4-5 inches. Probably from playing on the men's college volleyball team. Dunking became easy (for some strange reason), and I had quite the repetoire. I always had to jump off two feet, so I couldn't drive through the lane and rise up on fools unless I could gather my feet.....but in warmups I could do some nasty stuff. My buddies said that my reverse w/ the double pump (a la Dominique) was my best ever. Dang I miss those days! Now my knees and ankles are shot, and the 30 extra pounds are keeping me grounded. At least I have some videotape though so my kids will believe me when I tell them!
5'9" and will be 26 next week. I've been dunking since I was 16 (and a couple of inches shorter). My hands can only palm the ball if it's got a lot of grip so my first dunks were actually two handed, which is a little backwards for most people. Last official standing vertical was in high school and was 34". We never did max (running) vertical, but I'm sure mine has hit 40" on good days. In fact, my standing reach is 7'7" (91 inches) so in this second video where my fingers touch 10'11" (131 inches) I'm jumping 40". <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2lE0iEPZhFk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2lE0iEPZhFk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5PgyGqW2zc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5PgyGqW2zc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Junior in high school, 5'9" , rain forced us to go in the gym during track practice. Messing around with nothing to do (and after some girls walked in...) our 400 relay team and couple other dudes grabbed a ball trying to dunk. I got 3 dunks in, 1 convincingly. I thought the rim was low cuz it looked "dunkable" that day, but nope it was regulation I slammed a volleyball 2 handed on a church rim off a dribble and drop step. I let out a big loud echoey beastly yell on that one I've got long arms so my reach is like a 6ft person (my reach is 5 inches further than what ClutchCityReturns mentioned) A 6fter needs like 30" of vert to get a ball through without palming. Squats workouts, put some power into those jumps. Aaah, but that was then....
Damn CCR didn't know you could get up like that! No wonder you got a piece of my shot when I tried to back you down(rarely get blocked so I remembered, lol). Oh, I have never dunked nor can I touch the rim. I'm more of a change of pace, floater type player.
Haha, yeah but you know what, I'm dunking easily, I've dunked since I was 15 but when I choked on that last dunk I've never dunked in a game again and I'm playing in a good league and people dunk like all the time but dunking is too freaking risky:/!
Two questions for so many dunking experts: 1. Does shoes matter [much]? 2. I can't seem to pull up my leg while jumping. So after I jump up, my entire body is stiff, which is clearly no way to dunk. Is it because I didn't jump high enough?
Nothing like CCR... I'm 5'10" and a bit, but I haven't dunked for a while since my knees have been getting worse and they get really sore for days if I put too much pressure on them. Two years ago, my senior year at college, I could dunk. Only one handed though and only when jumping off one foot (left). I only dunked in one of our games, because our team had too many close ones, so I didn't want to risk a miss. But I'd occasionally throw a few down in warm ups.
